According to a story on BBC 6 Music (here), the Rolling Stones were approached to play Glastonbury Festival this year after all - something Mick Jagger had previously denied.

Jagger said during the webcast interview that announced their European dates for this summer that they weren't playing Glastonbury because they weren't asked, but now Glastonbury main booker Martin Elbourne has told 6 Music that they wanted £1M if they were to appear.

eFestivals has heard stories of approaches to the Stones to play Glastonbury in previous years where a similar high fee was asked for. With Glastonbury giving it's profits away to the likes of WaterAid, Oxfam, and Greenpeace as well as worthwhile locals causes it was felt that the fee was simply too high. This year Glastonbury hopes to be able to give away £2M.

All this comes in the same week that Jagger's ex Jerry Hall accused him of being "tight". It's not really so surprising - with Jagger having publicly stated his huge admiration of arch-capitalist Maggie Thatcher, it seems topping up his already ridiculously huge pension plan comes before all other things.
