A classic festival name from the past is to return, reports Metal Hammer.

The original Monsters of Rock festival started in the early eighties off the back of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, or NWOBHM for those with a love of acronyms lapping up every word from Sounds. It featured many of the bands that would be at the top of any self-respecting metal fan's list even now.

Happening at Milton Keynes Bowl on Saturday 3rd June, the name is being revived to provide a platform for the same music - and some of the same bands - for today's audience.

It's to be headlined by classic rockers Deep Purple, along with Alice Cooper as special guest, with more acts to be announced in the next few weeks. Expect a monster day of monster rock hits ... and probably a few monsters courtesy of Alice.

Tickets are priced at £38.50, and go on sale on Friday 20th January. We'll of course have links to buy at that time.
