With this summers festival season now over, thoughts are turning to next years fun.

Planning for next years Glastonbury Festival has been continuing through the summer, with much time and effort being spent putting together the detailed plans that the council and police require. The license application for next years event is expected to be lodged next month, with the full hearing in November. It's been reported in the local press around Glastonbury that the license application is expected to be for an increased number, for a total of 130,000 (an increase of nearly 30,000).

Following Glastonbury 2000, Mendip District Council published a long report on the organisation and running of the Festival. Although the report made an issue of the numbers of people on site in excess of the licensed number, it also made clear how well the event functioned, even with an estimated 100,000 extra people present. It's thought that this proven ability to run a safe event for so many people will be used as justification for the increase in numbers for 2002. A greater number of tickets available for purchase will lessen the problem of people trying to get to the site without tickets, and new security measures will be introduced to ensure that only persons with valid tickets are able to access the site next year - the days of jumping the fence are over!

After their acoustic appearance at the Pilton Party last Friday night, Glastonbury 2002 is expected to feature Coldplay as one of the Pyramid Stage headliners. Also playing at Pilton on Friday were The Beta Band and Starsailor, both of which are expected to play a prime time spot on the Pyramid Stage next year as a thank you for their appearance.

We will of course continue to bring you the most accurate and informed news on Glastonbury Festival, and all of next summers events - and we hope to have a few very special surprises and exclusive offers for next summers madness. Watch this space...
