Glasto: £20,000 fine for license violations?

By Neil Greenway | Published:

According to an article published by NME.com, Michael Eavis is facing a fine of upto £20,000 for public entertainment license violations at Glastonbury 2000.

A local council committee recommended that he be prosecuted last month, mainly due to the numbers that attended: having carried out exit surveys, Mendip District Council believes that 100,000 extra people attended.

Although he's yet to receive any court notice, Michael Eavis does expect to be prosecuted, but is hoping that the magistrates will be reasonable with him.

He also claims in this article that he planned to not hold a festival in 2001 (this conflicts with every public statement made since June), but after the councils reaction decided to fight to hold one next year.

If a festival is held next year it has been confirmed that this will take place on 22nd-24th June 2001.
