Latitude Festival (They Might Be Giants, The Duke and the King, OMD, My Morning Jacket)

  2. I think EOTR did a couple of things well as regards selling tickets, that Latitude (to name one) didn't. Firstly they got their early bird tickets on sale immediately, capitalising on last year's post fest buzz (they sold out in 9 hours then brought out a 2nd wave of early birds). Secondly they announced their line-up early. Where Latitude and Leeds/Reading fell down massively in my opinion was by being one of the last to announce headliners and get tickets on sale. Allowing your competitors first crack at the market is a bad move in any line of business.

  3. My gig t-shirts tend to fall into 1 of 2 camps:

    1) Those I bought because I liked the design - post rock seems to be good for this, Mogwai and EiTS recently

    2) Those I bought because at the end of the gig I was sweaty/soaked in beer/it was pouring outside and I wanted a change of clothes. SJ&TDK, Easy Star All Stars, Jim Jones Revue etc.

  4. So the local currating Friday in the TIPI means that these bands:

+ She Keeps Bees + Sam Amidon + Cambodian Space Project + Found + Skinny Lister + Sarabeth Tucek + Emanuel & The Fear + Rue Royale

Need to go in these slots:

    20:45 - 21:45

    19:30 - 20:15

    18:15 - 19:00

    17:00 - 17:45

    15:45 - 16:30

    14:45 - 15:15

    13:45 - 14:15

    12:45 - 13:15

    Any preferences?

  5. Think it was something like:

    Doors 7.30

    Crackling 8.00 - 8.30

Singing Adams 8.45 - 9.15 (Crackling backed him for second half of the set)

Dan Mangan 9.30 - close (Think he finished about 10:45 after 3 encores!)

  6. Dan Mangan was very good last night... His band did a set as well, they have an album out (under the name "Crackling". They're NOT a pork band, apparently) - wonder if they're candidates for a late night Tipi/Piano set? Steven Adams was on predictably good form as well. Definitely recommend the new Singing Adams album.

  7. There are 4 main music stages:

    The Garden Stage (large, uncovered)

    The Big Top (Tent)

    The Tipi Stage (Tent)

    The Local (Tent)

The big top is much the largest of the three tented stages. There are then a handful of nooks and crannies where bands sometimes pop up - notably a piano tucked away in the woods.

For non-music stuff there is a comedy stage - think this is being revamped this year? A film tent, small tents hosting workshops (last year these were the circus, making and doing tents) and a library in the woods.

    Have I missed anything?

  8. Priorities (Not seen before, want to see)

    Beirut

    Laura Marling

    The Fall

    M Ward

    Joan as Police Woman

    TunE-YArDS

    Caitlin Rose

    Dan Mangan

    Lanterns on the Lake

    Megafaun

    Cass McCombs

    Rue Royale

    Treelight for Sunlight

    Sarabeth Tucek

Probables (Seen before, want to see again)

    Joanna Newsom

    Midlake

    Tinariwen

    Gruff Rhys

    Okkervil River

    John Grant

    Leisure Society

    Sam Amidon

    Lia Ices

Possibly my favourite band in the whole world

    Mogwai

  9. The second row of artists isn't displaying properly on my browser as well but is still there in the HTML - missing Laura Marling and the Walkmen.

Anyway excellent booking - saw them recently at Heaven and they were v good. New material a wee bit more rocky than the earlier stuff.

  10. In no particular order:

    TuNE-yARdS

    Dan Mangan

    Sarabeth Tucek

    Rue Royale

    Treelight for Sunlight

If I might add my 2p on the Walkmen (and break my "if you can't say anything positive, don't say anything" rule), I saw them last year, supporting the Black Keys, and they didn't do anything for me. Maybe they've improved since then?

  11. 2 albums that have been getting a lot of love round these parts are Everything's Getting Older by Aidan Moffat and Bill Wells, and Everybody Friends Now by Singing Adams.

The Aidan Moffatt / Bill Wells one is some of the former's best work (certainly his best post Arab Strap) and features his usual mix of songs about failed romance, loneliness, getting old and death. It's really rather beautiful in places - particularly love the piano on "The Copper Top".

The Singing Adams effort shows a much more rounded band than the one that played EOTR last year. Saw them last week supporting Okkervil River and they really look like they're enjoying themselves which is good to see. Move On is the standout track for me on this LP...

  12. Although I haven't seen Rue Royal before they have done several gigs with my friend's band. Hes always telling me how much he loves them :) So I am looking forward to seeing them. She Keeps Bees did the last set of 09 and were good fun Infinate Jest...I think you will enjoy them too
