  1. Hi Everyone - back again after a bit of an absence. ;)

I suppose I had better pull my finger out and get this up and running again. Nice to see a bit of interest here.

The intention of running this event is that people attending will have a good time on the Thursday night. Everyone is welcome but I guess the majority will be 40's+ but not necessarily so...

There are no real rules - just try to be friendly and get into the Glasto spirit as an 'Old Git/Hag'. ;)

With this in mind I think we will stick with using the Victor Meldrew masks like we did last time as we raised quite a few laughs when we arrived en-masse at various venues with them on. There are pictures knocking about ...

If ladies would like to choose a suitable female equivalent mask then that is great.. Suggestions welcomed.

Now I try to be democratic running this and will listen to various ideas offered here before an itinary is agreed on. So if anyone has proposals please pitch them in. Bear in mind that we cannot guarantee good weather so a few indoor backup suggestions will be appreciated as a 'Plan B'.

I will try and get some badges made for the people attending - I will cover my costs and donate any profit to Wateraid.

Anyway if someone could post sources of cheapo Victor Meldrew masks etc and get a few ideas as places to visit that would be welcomed.

If my intention comes to fruitition we will all have a good laugh and a 'bloody good night'. :D

That is all for now... ;)

    All the Best

    Dave

  2. Been watching Bowie Bio on BBC4 tonight. Such a damn shame he is not a headliner this year - such enormous talent and huge catalogue of great songs !

The word legend comes to mind as he changed the course of popular music!

Here is hoping he will play one more time at Glastonbury before he disappears into obituaryland...

  3. Thanks guys - we certainly don't behave like frail geriatrics. This will be a good excuse for anyone interested to join in a bit of fun and behind the Victor Meldrew mask it won't matter what age you actually are. We are at Glastonbury - we will have fun and we will be noticed if last Glasto is anything to go by! ;)

I dunno if anyone can find the link to the last Old Gits thread - it may give newbies an idea as to what goes on. Thanks in advance. Will post more regularly when I have paid my deposit and more into the spirit of Glasto.

Keep the thread rolling please - the more the merrier !

    Dave

PS waves back to pie_and_a_pint. Thanks I have missed this place tbh.. ;)

  4. Okay well there does seem to be a bit of interest so I will pick up the torch and run with it. :)

What consitutes an Old Git/Hag? Well we certainly are not ageist but quite a few of us last time had a few (or more) grey hairs but that isn't important. It is just an excuse to have a lot of fun on the Thursday evening - everyone welcome really. Just get into the spirit of being a miserable Old Git or Hag... ;)

Meeting at the Cider Bus and go to a few different places around the site. Quite a few of us had Victor Meldrew masks and created a bit of a stir especially when we were bouncing around at the 70's disco up at Park area. lol

I will get a bit more organised nearer the date. I will try to get some more efest Old Gits/Hags badges made if there is sufficient interest. They were quite collectable last time around. :)

Keep the comments coming. Nothing is planned so I am open to decent suggestions on where to go and what to see on the Thursday night. Bear in mind we cannot guarentee good weather though...

PS Even got an interview on Radio Somerset (which was a bit unexpected) ;)

  5. Hello again one and all - long time no speak on this forum! Have come out of hibernation now lol :)

Do people think there should be another 'Old Gits and Hags' get together again this year?

We did rather have a lot of fun at the the last Glasto as I remember.. ;)

I would be happy to organise something if there is the demand..

Let me know what you all think..

    Best Wishes

    Dave

  6. Hi everyone. I organised last Festivals 'Old Git's and Hags' Meet and now I have a ticket sorted I will probably organise a 2013 version unless someone else is keen to sort it.

The last one was very successful and we had a lot of interest and I ended up being interviewed on BBC Somerset about it wink.png

Anyway I will probably start a new thread after Xmas and see who is interested in coming along and work out some kind of itinery..

The 'Victor Meldrew' masks seemed to work well enough and we created a reasonable amount of interest where ever we went.

Anyway - you don't have to be Old, a Hag or a Git to come along. Just get a mask and get into the spirit of things. ;)

It will probably take place on the Thursday evening, starting at the Cider Bus as everyone seemed to be able to find their way there.

All I can say is it WILL be fun and not too serious and dancing will be involved at some stage (70's music if I have anything to do with it lol). smile.png

If someone could dig up the 2011 'Old Gits/Hags' Thread I would be very grateful.

    All the Best

  7. When T day has passed the various meets will start to be organised. If I am fortunate enough to get a ticket on Sunday I will probably arrange another 'Old Gits' Meet as the last one was very successful but we shall see... ;)

  8. I soaked the most filthy clothes in a bucket of water for a few hours then scrubbed of mud patches remaining.

Only then did I put the clothes into the washing machine.

Glasto (or any other kind of) mud won't do a washing machine any favours...

  9. Next time, everyone needs to take the phone numbers and call ahead to find out if there is space. I was very sad to hear/find out people gave up on finding it/camping there after being told Pennards was full when it most definitly wasnt where CT was. (I was still getting 6 man tents in at 3pm!!!) Its location was positively empty imo.

Apart from those that arrived early and didnt go to the designated spot, CT WAS exactly on the GPS/map spot that had been spoken about for months and of those that did aim to camp there, pretty much everyone was within a 200 metre distance from each other which I call a result :D

With the loss of Mamajojo to Park we didnt have flags up again but well done to all of those who came to us. We did put the location up on the campsite maps and were told by the campsite stewards what a great idea it is to have a camp for people who have ended up having to come to the fest on their own.

Another year, another wonderful evolution of this camp. A great time was had by most. It is still unofficial and so nothing can be promised to those intending on staying in Pennards and high expectations should be left at the gates. It functioned as intended, solo flyers felt safe, made friends and had a wonderful fest. Friends old and new came together and excessive partying ensued.

Sorry to all of those who were victims of evil Pennards thefts, its such a horrible thing to happen. Lessons hopefully have been learnt now.

If all goes well with the already forming plans in heads...watch this space for something rather special in 2013. Despite theft problems this year we will be back!!!

  10. Thanks to everyone who turned up last Thursday night and helped make 'The Old Gits and Hags Meet' a great success ! :D

We all had a lot of fun and I know lots of people made new friends too !

I am hoping someone will post some photos as I didn't take any unfortunately ...

Anyway about £25 was raised from the badges sale which went to WaterAid. :)

The highlight for me was when we wre dancing away to Fleetwood Mac in Victor Meldrew masks at the Stone Bridge Bar - some classic moments there with lots of people photographing and videoing us 'going for it '

Best OGM yet - I really enjoyed myself ! :)B):D

  11. Here are a few things to make this years festival a more positive experience. :)

    1) Be patient waiting to get on site - you may have to queue for some time so have a small bottle of water and a snack handy.

    2) The Glastonbury Festival site is massive - much larger than you will expect so make a actual/mental note which car park your car is in as each car park holds thousands of cars. Also try and get your bearings where your tent is located as the site takes on a completely different appearence at night!

    3) Use the lockups to keep valuables in e.g. money/decent cameras/smart phones etc.

    4) The toilets aren't that bad but best 'experience' is by using the long drops.

    5) Make friends with your neighbours. :)

    6) Try and visit something different from what you may normally like e.g try the Green/Healing and Circus Fields

    7) Don't try and do everything - just wander about and have your own personal Glasto Festival experience ! :)

    8) It can get cold at night so ensure you have a few warm clothes with you.

    9) Some of the best festival experiences are to be had after Midnight in the alternative entertainment areas eg Shangi-la, Arcadia etc

    10) You will be on your feet a lot of the time so take decent footware with you,

Please feel free to add as this is not a comprehensive list.

Hope this information is of some use to someone here anyway.

    Best Wishes

    Dave

  12. ATTENTION ALL OLD GITS AND HAGS - FINAL REMINDER !!!!

    (Repeated from earlier post)

As we are a large group of people of diverse tastes it will be impossible to cater for everyone's particular evening entertainment requirements alas.

The MOST important thing is for people to come along, have a good time and meet new likeminded friends and leave with some positive memories.

DON'T be shy - come and say hello and join in with the general randomness of the event. B)

I know a number of people coming already who are thoroughly nice people so please don't feel worried/excluded - whatever age you are!

I am hoping lots of photos are taken across the evening - possibly some people will post a few here after we get back from Glasto.,

The intention, for me, is to start the ball rolling so here is my basic plan:

    1) We meet at the cider bus around 6.30pm on Thurday as a starting point. If you have a Victor Meldrew mask (as suggested) wear it for Id.

Also I have a small memento badge for the first 50 people. (small donations welcomed - profits to Wateraid ):)

A few of us oldies will be interviewed for Radio Somerset (see previous posts) ;)

    2) About 7.45pm we wander over to The Stonebridge Bar in the Park area for a dance about to 70's tunes.

    3) About 9.30pm we go over to the Avalon Bar

    4) Around 11pm we meet with lots of other efest people in 'The Snake Pit' in Shangri-la for a dance about/crazy time!

( I have bought some stick on tattoos (needed for entry into the Snake-Pit) for anyone wanting one - again donation to Wateraid)

This of course won't be to everyone's taste but we are at Glastonbury and everyone is looking for their own good experience so I expect people to come and go throughout the evening. I myself want to pop up to the Stone Circle about 9.10pm to be part of the Flashmob event for probably 20 mins.

I am sure some people will attend all bits of the Meet whilst others come and go.

Please understand this is NOT a highly organised event with a team making things happen - it is just me and whoever else wants to help out. :)

I won't be hearding everyone about as people at Glasto tend to do their own thing whatever and there are distractions throughout the evening as well as possible weather issues..

I intend to have a good time. I will be wearing my 'DaveMac' efest tee shirt and will have a small sign showing that this is the efestivals 2011 OGM.

I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday at the Cider Bus. Lets make this a sucess ! :D

    Best Wishes

    Dave

  13. If you haven't packed yet don't forget to put your clothes/sleeping bag into black bin bags to keep them dry.

Nothing worse than waiting in a queue in the rain and finding out too late that your bag is not waterproof and all your stuff is damp/wet... :O
