  1. Wonder if any of you guys can help me.

We had planned to take our 2 Nieces for the first time this year, aged 6 & 8 for the full festival.

Due to family commitments they can now only come Friday afternoon onwards.

The kids Dad (my brother) is happy to drive them down and meet me at the festival to drop them off. Kids have got their hearts set on coming with us and the weekend is better than not at all but I'm not sure about the logistics and could do with advice / other people's experience.

My brother hasn't got a ticket (silly boy doesn't want one either) or parking permit, will he be able to meet me at a pedestrian Gate?

If not can he use the shuttle bus from drop off point to Gate A without a ticket?

Anyone used the paid bus service to Shepton Mallet / Glastonbury? I don't really want to leave site but is this easier than him getting to me?

Most importantly, will there be any issue getting the kids in Friday afternoon for the 1st time if I've been there since Wednesday? If I leave site to get them I'll have a pass out etc. Are kids given a pass out if they leave site?

We've been looking forward to taking the kids to the festival so this is a massive disappointment they can't come for the whole festival (this is not an option at all).

Really appreciate some advice on how best to get around this issue.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Our group of 16 made up of friends and family has an age range of 6 - 65, with 3 of them including my dad being over 55.

The older guys have no problem at all keeping up (and out doing us) on the endurance stakes over the festival. We all go our seperate ways during the day and catch up at various points when our interests cross over.

Me and my wife love going to the festival with my Dad as its one of the few times through the year that we get to spend quality time together.

Looking forward to a family festival even more this year as we are taking out 2 nieces for the first time as well as my Dad, so the girls will get some quality time with their Grandad as well.

One thing that's really helpful for my Dad is to have a full height tent that he can stand up in. Makes it much easier on him / his back in and aroun the camp site.

Hope you and your folks have a great festival together.

  3. Congratulations! Hope you both have a wonderful day.

We got married last May and had music that meant something to us throughout the whole day.

    While guests arrived we had:

    Dear Friends - Elbow

Do you realize - Flaming Lips

Don't stop me now - Queen

Accidentally in love - Counting Crows

    Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol

    Skinny Love - Bon Iver

    Walking down the aisle

One Day like this (instrumental version) - Elbow

    Signing Register

    Lucky Man - The Verve

At your most beautiful - R.E.M

Signed, Sealed, Delivered - Stevie Wonder

    Walked back up the aisle

One day like this - Vocals from the Chorus

Had 2 hours of music playing in the background through the wedding breakfast, with a running theme of important songs to us and me talking to my wife through the lyrics. ( examples include, Love & Marriage, I was made to love her, You take my breathe away, Prettiest eyes, lets get it on, Tender, When I'm 64, All for you)

    1st dance,

    Skinny Love, Bon Iver

    Last Dance

New York, New York - Frank Sintara

Hope some of that and other suggestions in this thread gives you some inspiration and ideas.

  4. I'm on their email list and got something the other day saying the festivals they are already announced for and some more to be announced.

Not sure what other European festivals are yet to announce their line ups.

    Nothing concrete but I'm hopeful.

  5. Good question!

Random email address plus my initial I created at college years ago. Can't remember why but wanted it anonymous rather than my name per my normal email address. Friend suggested it as I spent more time in the pub than sixth form. Daft thing is I hardly drink these days, so it's a bit of a misnomer.

Avatar from a Brothers competition few years back where they gave away the festival packs only on eFestivals if you set your avatar to something Brothers related. Should change it really, been free advertising for about 4 years.

  6. I've done the survey. Be interested to see the summary.

I am in the 30-34 bracket.

What I notice form the poll data as it stands is approx 40% of festival goers are younger than me and 40% are older.

Does that mean I'm a Middle Aged festival goer at the age of 32??! Never fallen into a Middle Ages bracket before, How depressing! Where did my youth go?

  7. as good a time as any to simply say "they're taking drugs" and start a dialogue on the subject, rather than treating as a mysterious activity that you don't want to talk about, which is more likely to pique their curiosity the wrong way.

"Look at all these people, some of them are drunk, some of them are on drugs, some of them haven't had anything... and look they're all ok"

with ages 6, 9,14 & 17 you could let them have some time on their own, no? I'd guess their musical tastes aren't totally in synch with each other.

At those ages, show them as much weirdness as you can ;)

  8. We are taking our 2 nieces this year for the first time, aged 6 and 8. My thinking at the moment is to go for a wander and let them decide where we go during the day and see what they want to see, stop where they want to stop etc and slowly guide them up through the Greenfields towards Flagtopia and onto the Ribbon Tower in the Park to see how big the place in the early evening.

  9. Vanderlyle,, said:

I highly doubt Eavis still puts up personal money for Glastonbury still. I assume Glastonbury Festivals Limited is a social enterprise, with tax breaks etc, which would mean all loans are against a company rather than a person.

but it's a company that essentially doesn't have an assets - it's an exceedingly bad risk loan on that basis.

The company that runs efestivals has assets of (just) above £5k, but I was required to give a 'personal guarantee' (making me, and not the company, ultimately liable) in order for my bank to give me a £5k overdraft facility.

I doubt that any bank nowadays is giving out £15M on a totally unsecured basis.

  10. Few folks have mentioned putting clothes in plastic bags, i.e t shirts in 1 bag, shorts in another etc etc.

I bag clothes up into days, so have t shirt, socks, trousers, undies bundle together.

This way if my stuff does get wet or something spills in my rucksack,I should still have at least 1 full set of clothes to wear while waiting for stuff to dry out, and not be in the situation where all my tops or trousers are not wearable at the same time.

  11. Great question! Here's my 5 influential albums

Kate Bush - This Woman's Work. - Borrowed out of my Dads record Collection and listened to frequently when I was about 11. Loved the haunting vocals.

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. Same as the above, the artwork in the booklet caught my attention for a school art project and the music held my attention even longer.

Oasis - What's the Story. A band at their peek in my mid teens. This was the soundtrack to my youth and the attitude to go with it. - I'm freeeeee to do Whatever I choose, whatever I choose, and I'll sing the blues if I want!

The Verve - Urban Hymns. Again, an album released in my teenage years with tracks that sound as outstanding now as the did when it was released 15 years ago.

Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid. A band I had overlooked until this huge hit album, which had tracks on it that reminded me just because a band play with guitars doesn't mean the lyrics can't be poetic and meaningful. Loved the album so much went on to explore their back catalogue, their contemporaries such as I Am Kloot and listen to some of the wonderful music Guy Garvey considers as his influences and plays on his 6Music radio show.

Special mentions for the Gatrcrasher compilation albums during my clubbing days of late teens/early twenties, but that was a passing phase in my musical tasted and so miss out on the top 5.

  12. Thanks all for the suggestions folks.

Finished the kids festival survival pack today after a trip to Go Outdoors. It contains:

    Waterproof Jacket

    Waterproof Trousers

    Kidz Ear Defenders

50 glow sticks + headbands and glasses making accessories

    Kids sleeping bag

    10 x mini haribo's

5 x packets of popping candy

    Pack of face paint sticks

    Pack of UV face paints

    Mock up Glasto Ticket.

17 Days till Christmas,199 days till Glastonbury!

  13. Yeah, don't use my original suggestion for them.

My nieces are similar age and have been to a few glastos. They love face paints, especially the luminous glow in the dark rave paint stuff. Maybe a festival hat as well, something pink with loads of flowers on is always a safe bet
