Not sure I blame you. We got early bird tickets for the entire family. My son loves the line up but it's not a good one for me. Too many shouty bands (Amyl, Sleaford, Bob Vylan (but I'll be at this one), Wargasm, HotWax, The Meffs) and the headliners are the poorest they've been since I started going. Still hopeful that the full line up will have a more balanced feel. At least you have one headliner you like

Completely agree. Took the plunge early to save a few quid on 2 adults and 3 kids and have zero interest in any of the headliners.

Desperate lack of reggae / ska / not shouty bands. Bit gutted at the moment.

(Also an attender of many a boomtown in my time - possibly linked to our mutual disappointment)

There's a long way to go, and the last time I went in 2019, it was a great festival aside from the big hitter acts (I'm now telling myself)

Definitely needs a little ska adding but I'm sure it will come, Convoy Cabaret and Maui Waui should come through on that front.

I remember reading the act descriptions in the programme back around 2013/2014 and having a laugh as every act description seemed to be a pick and mix of punk/ska/reggae/rockabilly. I like that it has expanded its musical horizons but the old line-ups never stopped me having a great time.

    Ha - yeah - agree.

It has expanded, feels like its growth has opened up more options, which is generally a good thing.

Watching the growth from athlete headlining, to the likes of janes addiction has been cool.

That's probably less than a 1/3rd of acts announced so far, am sure there will be a load more that will please lovers of all genres.

I also think there's at least one more Pallet Headliner to come.

Yeah, good point. I forget how heavyweight it is now, and just how many acts play over the weekend

Well yesterdays lineup drop was a definite win for us, and tickets bought last night! But yeah, looking at the last few line-ups, I've also noticed that. Clearly DHP are taking it in a slightly different direction...

Due to a whole bunch of reasons, I've not personally not been since 2019...so it should be interesting to see what else has changed, and how it affects the vibe etc...(although fair play, loads of mates were very complimentary about this years do).

Hopefully 'Janes' will show up (and play). Loved them for years, but never managed to see them...that said, there is loads for us even if they 'no-show'!

Hey spud, yeah similar for us. We were drawn in around 2013 by a Sunday afternoon of pama International  / the beat  / transglobal... (or something like that.)

Went every year til about 2019 and now back after a break. We've had some great times at the festival, I'd go as far as to say some of the best weekends of my life.

Also interested to see where we are now, and how it feels. Hopefully subsequent lineup drops will tickets my fancy.

Whatever happens, I'm sure we'll habe a great weekend.  One of the great things about bearded was thar we did it pre kids, late nights, messy times... and now we can do it with kids, and still enjoy loads of whets on offer.

  5. After not getting glasto tickets this morning we are cheering ourselves up by looking for alternatives. Does anyone have experience of taking children to Boomtown or know if it is family friendly? I can see they have a kids field etc. but just thought people might have first hand experience.

Wouldn't recommend it myself - lot of people quite obviously on drugs.

Kids field might be ok though, not sure about that

  6. Close though.

    Thanks mate....

Just goes to show, don't listen to anything I say regarding toots and bearded...

(Although I did hear he was in advanced talks to headline the Sunday next year, word is that the prospect of playing what he refers to as 'the Ali Campbell ub40 spot' could be enough to coax him out of his unfortunate retirement....)

  7. As much as I like your sentiment, I'm not sure I can agree.

it was a man talking / shouting / gesturing over a recorded track.

His pitch needed auto tune, and he came in at the wrong time at least three times.

It would have been a poor , poor show on any stage, at any time.

An insult to actual real musicians working hard in the industry.

  8. That's crazy. Me and my missus did spend an evening discussing this when we saw your post.

We've got an 18 month old and the wife is 7 months pregnant, so this summer is looking scuppered festival wise for us together (I'm squeezing in a cheeky beatherder with some buddies, but that's another story) . We need a festival that we can day trip to from bristol, and don't have a lot of cash.

Problem was that we went through the lineup highlighting what acts we'd love to see, and what would happily drop in on if we were there.... It wasn't good.

How I wish it was last years lineup, which was their best yet in my opinion. We came to the sad conclusion that we didn't even want to pay 100 quid for the pair of tickets. Crazy.

Bearded theory , however, will be brilliant. Gutted we can't make it. That Sunday main stage lineup is just lovely.

Hope you enjoy it mate - first one we've missed in 5 years and well both be gutted come that weekend.

  9. Haven't been to galtres / solfest, but think bearded will serve you well - if beautiful days is one you've considered already.

It's an 'older' festival - lots of people there have done lots of festivals. It has it's fair share of 'characters' , but the community feel is friendly, considerate and pretty laid back. Dance tent is perhaps the exception, but that's just about the old dancey / raver vibe and is a lovely place to be too, when the urge takes you.

Wish I was able to take my family this year, but sadly we will be missing our first bearded for 5 years.

Just reread that . Just to clarify, 'laid back' in a good kinda way only... Lots of the tunes / bands are lively.

There's quite a few hippies though, within the rich tapestry of characters
