I suspect that before long there will be lorries kitted out with huge generators and fast chargers that will move around to address that problem.

The EV guys seem to be pretty forward thinking.

Tbh I think that’s an expensive (and not very green) solution to a non existent problem.

I reckon that EV’s with a 350 mile range will be commonplace within a decade meaning that charging up at Glasto will be about as necessary as filling up with petrol on site is now.

... that'll be extra busy that day, and you might have to queue for it for hours...?

I'm all for electric cars but I'd never considered the impact that a large-scale event would have on its local charging infrastructure before now, and definitely throws in a few extra problems.

It’s a tricky one to predict because range is increasing at the same time as them becoming more popular...

i.e. There will be more EV’s on the road, but they’ll mostly be starting the day from home with a fully charged battery and the longer the range the less they need to be charged away from home.

With the 130 mile range of my Leaf I maybe have to use a rapid charger once a month, if that. If my range was 350 miles (and that’s already a reality at the high end) I’d probably only ever charge away from home a handful of times in the cars lifetime. I’d definitely have enough juice to go to Glasto and back.

Excellent updates all - ta v much.

I got my Leaf just after this year's festival so it's great to see they are already accommodating EVs. But as you say there'll be a whole more joining the EV revolution between now and June 19 so I'd hope there will be an increased set up in place or faster chargers on site.

TBH I have to question the viability of charging a large number of cars in a field, it seems like a lot of infrastructure would be required to do it on a much bigger scale than the setup they had this year.

I've had my Leaf long enough now to know that the battery doesn't really go down in stationary traffic, which was my primary concern. Maybe 2-3% an hour with the AC on, less than 1% with it off.

In other words charging at the festival in the future would be a bonus but even a 24kWh Leaf (mines the 30) easily has enough range to make it to the festival and back from the rapid charger at Sedgemoore services.

well I have to confess that ' when reading these posts I was not sure if it was a wind up or not '

    well done the AA

so out of interest - ' how many cars were there ?

was this a open field ? as I have to wonder what would happen in a wet year.

sounds a great idea but if they are constantly shuffling cars about and its muddy this could all end in tears.

There were probably about 15 cars.  Juggling the cars about wouldn't be a problem because they had weatherproof extension leads so no need to actually move the cars.

It'll be interesting to see how this progresses because by the time the next festival comes around I'd expect there to be much more than 15 cars. You can't exactly charge 300 cars from a generator...

  5. Being able to camp next to your car and the extra non essentials which you would be able to bring would be a big plus IMO. Solar shower, proper camping bed etc...

    But not for £400.

I'm surprised that the festival haven't clocked this themselves and allocated a field for it, which they could of course charge extra for.

£100 for car and tent? I'm in.

  6. Yup, worked much better than I was expecting. My tent was always cool even when I popped back there mid afternoon.

It was dark enough in the day time to need a torch if the door was shut.

They just need to make a sound proof next :D

20-30 mins queue for the toilet. What are you going to do? Piss yourself or piss up the hedge?

In the campervan fields the toilets werent emptied on sunday night/monday. In our field there was 1 out of 10 cublicles usable. What do they think is going to happen?

Can't comment on the campervan fields bit but the rest is a big exaggeration isn't it?

  8. For anyone reading this thread next year, the facilities are great! You need to bring your 3 pin charger with you (which thankfully I did, although I almost didn't).

Knowing what I know now I'd say you're fine to rely on them working.

I didn't know if this is official policy or not (I didn't want to question it) but I didn't have to buy a car parking ticket. Assuming it is policy I think it's great that the festival is incentivising low / zero carbon travel :)

If you were thinking of using the points at morrisons in Wells, those are currently reported as offline according to Zap Map

Thanks. Unless I get confirmation from someone with experience of them that says i'm ok to 100% rely on the ones on site i'll be making a slight de-tour to the Ecotricity rapids at Sedgemoore services. 68 mile round trip from there to the festival and back again which I could almost (but not quite) do twice.

What happens to the battery if I get stuck in 8 hours of traffic is a bit of an unknown at this stage too, I suspect very little but I think it's best to err on the side of caution...

Been to both,  I am left wing my friend and attend marches, but go to these as an escape and have a laugh....and I will have a laugh,  lets see if Corbin has a sense of humor

Why don't you write a letter to Mr Eavis to tell him how he can tailor the festival for your exact tastes?

  11. I said this a few days ago and nobody acknowledged, but it remains true -

Assuming that you have CheckPage, spending 8 hours a day in front of your computer offers hardly any benefit over just keeping a close eye on your phone - as long as your phone has a reasonable internet connection.

People are getting stressed and saying that they can't do this any longer. It's not worth it.

Take a step back and just make sure your phone is in earshot and isn't on silent.

  12. Seeing people are getting a bit stressed!

I'm not trying to discourage anyone but if you've get the page checker setup and you've got WiFi / 4G on your phone, being next to a computer isn't going to speed up your getting tickets all that much.

Setup the keyboard shortcuts for your details and actually I don't think it will make any difference at all.

So basically as long as your phone is on, has signal and is in ear shot - chill out people :)

  13. 5 alerts in 6 minutes!

As this keeps happening could something be put in place to stop the flurries? like an if statement that checks how long it has been since the last alert was sent and if it's less than say 10 minutes it doesn't send it out?

  14. I do find it slightly surprising that people on a Glastonbury Festival forum would mock this kind of post.

There are lots of things that I don't understand but I am prepared to accept that others may know more than me and just because my mind cannot comprehend it does not mean it isn't true.

You only need to go into Glastonbury High Street and see what is going on there and realise these kind of arts are at the heart of the festival.

    Charm x

Being open minded is about just accepting any old nonsense because it might be beyond your comprehension, it's about being willing to change your mind in light of new evidence.

Palm reading is bullshit, but show me some real evidence and I'll change my mind. Until them I'm going to lump it in with a million other things that there's no evidence for.

"Just because my mind cannot comprehend it does not mean it isn't true" - correct, quantum mechanics is incomprehensibly strange, way way more so than anything you'll find in the healing fields. Take away the evidence and I'd say it was bullshit of the highest order, only there is evidence and it's not. That's the difference.

I'm not sure which quote is most appropriate here, either "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" or "What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence."

  15. I've got a Weber BBQ, can't remember how much it cost but it was new and it wouldn't have been £200.

I've had it about 5 years, keep it under a cover and it still looks new after its annual power wash. So yes, a good purchase.

  16. Terrified by this thread too. Ugh.

I don't think there's any need for that, Emily clearly chose to get involved with the festival - she wasn't forced into it.

It's what she wanted to do, it's what she does very well and probably the only thing that she has experience in. Plus she earns a very good living from it and the continuation of the festival ensures her and her family a very comfortable and secure future.

GFL is an extremely successful business, it's not just going to stop.

E2A - according to Wiki she left her studies to run the festival at the age of 20 so she isn't even qualified in any other field. She's not going anywhere.

  17. It doesn't make sense to me that there would just be a close to 4 hour gap on the biggest stage - isn't that just going to cause over crowding at the other stages?

Even if they can't get anyone new they could bump the Charlatans up to sub on the Other and move Mark Ronson over to the Pyramid? That seems simple enough assuming that The Charlatans aren't playing elsewhere in the evening.

  18. Unless you actually believe in ley lines then there's nothing particularly special about the current site other than the great memories we all have of it.

Glastonbury is great because of a million other things and there's no reason it couldn't be recreated elsewhere.

If rather it stay put just because, but let's be honest if you were starting from scratch you'd choose a site with better access and drainage for a start.

  19. I'm quite committed to avoiding hangovers at Galstonbury because I seem to get them quite badly unless I take steps to avoid them.

Before staring I'll have a Dioralyte and Berocca drink along with a vitamin B tablet.

Another Dioralyte for roughly every 4 drinks I have and then another Dioralyte and Berocca before bed.

That seems to almost stop a hangover dead in its tracks other than feeling a bit groggy in the morning from alcohol reducing your sleep quality but there's not much you can do about that. I suppose Nytol might help but I'm not convinced that's a good idea.

Reading up about NAC because of this thread and the science seems plausible (can't find anything peer reviewed though) so I'll throw that into the mix this year.

  20. Yeah, I can recommend Nikwax. I invest in a big bottle every year for my tent, boots & poncho and I've always been waterproof.

A wet Glasto is shit if you're not properly prepared for it.

  21. A reasonable pair of walking boots and gaiters can be had from Sports Direct for about £40. Best money you'll spend - I did 45,000 steps a day last year according to my Fitbit. That would kill your feet in wellies but with boots it's no problem.
