Fist day back at work, every year

“Who did you see at Glastonbury?”

”Umm, I can’t really remember. Please don’t ask me any questions. I’m feeling a bit fragile.”

I tend to just say the biggest headliner I saw plus "loads of others". Seems to keep them happy.

My point exactly regarding the strength of the line-up debate

  2. Could it be that this conversation is happening 2 months too early, and would be of more use post festival....

here's my 2p, almost every year someone somewhere complains about the line up and that x year was so much better etc, yet I can guarantee on the run up to x year people were giving out about the line up for that year and it's not until get get to see the whole picture and how all the parts fit together that we get a true feel of how good or bad a line-up was....

Also does it really matter how strong or weak the line up is? I know that over the 5 days I'll probably see perhaps 20 acts that I will be able to name when I get home, the rest of the time I'll stumble across bits and pieces of bands I've never heard of and will never hear of again but for that 20 minutes while waiting for X to come on I was hooked. Some of the best festivals I've had was when I was excited about very few on the line up and was able to enjoy the festival not the bands and the worst festival was the one I was supper excited about seeing loads of acts I really wanted to see and zipped about the site but got to see very little of the festival

    This

Never understood why people spend time watching films at Glastonbury.

one of my favorite Glasto memories is watching the Goonies in the old out door cinema field (it was about the only thing to do on a Thursday) the crowd was huge and so into the movie shouting out lines and just having a great time

yea, they played opposite KANYE, I went to the pyramid for the first few minutes, which was way too long then got over to the glade and PSB were on it, great night with a great crowd

Always. And I've been attending since. hmmm, can't actually remember. First couple at least were Cider Bus ones. The first time I can remember saying to the couple I'd travelled with, "I'm off to meet some strangers from the internet, come along if you like", and getting weird looks from them.

Yep I know that look, TBH at this stage that look is part of the fun of the meet hahahah

If it's your first time, your concern about the strength of the line-up is about to evaporate into nothingness.

    It. Will. Blow. Your. Mind.

    out of up votes......

  7. God every year it's the same argument, too many heritage acts, not enough heritage acts, not enough big names, too much of this or that type of music, not enough of this or that type of music, all the acts I want to see clashing, not as good as it used to be...... and on and on and on, yet there we are on the first Sunday in October hammering away on our F5 keys, because we know it's going on to be the best 5 days of our year

This really is the fundamental point that should be remembered for anybody getting anxious about going.

Social anxiety can be a bastard until you realise that all you're doing is gaslighting yourself and has no basis in reality.

this is so true, I have only made it to two meets up to that point I walked by a couple of times, before I worked up to courage to "jump in." As a mostly lurker and only occasional poster I thought it was going to be all the regular names on here and that us "others" would be a bit outside, but no, its has been a great experience and I'm so sorry I hadn't taken the plunge years earlier. If you are reading this tread and are on the fence, please come.

Read all these posts looking for new wisdom and it's all stuff I've seen/ thought of before, but this is a new one on me, and a great idea. Well done!

Most phones have the ability to put a message on the locked screen for years (I think I got the idea on here) mine reads "ICE call (wife's name) (phone number)"

I don’t know the official answer but I’d be very surprised if they didn’t let you upgrade by paying the difference. They let us in for a quick look around before we committed to paying last time, they’re pretty laid back.

Thanks, That's what I was thinking but thought best to ask...

  12. I've never got around to visiting lost horizons but it's on my list of things to get to, do you lovely people know if I decide to pay for a one time visit and while there really love it and decide I'm going to come back more often, can I upgrade to a weekend pass by just paying the difference or would I have to pay full price for the weekend pass?

    TIA

Any recommendations for first night, first timer hang out/areas to visit?

The Ridge and Furrow Meet(s) 6pm on Wed, the fireworks / opening ceremony, and just have a good wander, the area's I like to get to on the first day are the areas I find it hard to get back to once all the stages kick off, healing fields, green futures, green crafts and so on, try your hand there, they always have workshops on and can be fun. Climb the hill and have a sit and think.....

Other than that I can only echo what has been said already, prepare for hot, cold, sunny and wet, you will be right.

Hopefully see you for a pint at the Ridge and Furrow
