I was there too in 2016 and only noticed the quiet main stage sound at the start of Radiohead's set. Rest of the weekend wasn't that bad, was it? Specifically remember Biffy and Foals killing my ears...

Can confirm that. 2017 was great, The XX had the best open-air-sound I've ever heard.

Yeah we stayed in a hotel near the airport and it was a gift getting to and from the festival. Made a huge difference.

To get from the festival to our hostel at gran via it was also quite easy: take the U-8, go to the waiting busses there which went to cibelles and walk a little. Time taken: 40 minutes(?), extra money taken: 0, because of a valid tourist ticket.

I am so glad I skipped AM and decided to see AIC instead. While there were major sound issues at the show (cause let's face it Koko stage was shit) both the performance AND the audience were so good that I forgot about the sound issues. Top notch performance.

I liked the AM-Performance, but can understand, if somebody does not... the Koko had a perfect sound when I went there for Ben Howard and Kaleo. Radio Station Stage was terrible (during Marmozets and Portugal The Man)

In 99% of instances the queues for the bars and getting to and from the site would’ve put me off ever returning to this but the lineup (and a few other things) salavged this massively.

They needed some of those metal zigzag railings for queuing at that big bar in the middle of the main stages. It was just unorganised carnage. The staff struggled with communication a lot of the time and where were we supposed to get refunds for the ‘refundable’ plastic cups?

The Massive Attack thing was probably the biggest shambles I’ve seen at a festival. 2 hours spent stood in silence at prime time.

The fest was also oversold, clearly. Masses of people absolutely everywhere in main areas from about 9pm-2am. I’d suggest that this could probably be improved by introducing more big clashes but who wants that? Take at least 10k off the capacity imo.

On the flip side the sound and screens were by far the best I’ve seen. We must’ve been stood about 400 yards away for Depeche Mode and it felt like we were up at the front pretty much.

The sangria/spirits were good value once you’d actually been served, they basically tipped half a bottle of wine into your cup each time.

All things considered I’d give the fest a 7/10. If they sorted out the queues and got more metro lines to stay open all night they’d be looking at a high 9 easy.

Edit: reading my comments back it comes across as me being a bit too negative - just to confirm I DID have a really good time! Just a couple of (relatively simple) adjustments could’ve been made to make the fest a nicer experience.

Good summary! The thursday-chaos doesn't happen to me, luckily, so my main problematic point was this:

Very loud talking at many concerts. I am not suggesting a ban on talking, but there where people who talked absolutely non-stop and quite loud during several concerts both in the front and bag and both with headliners and smaller bands.

Especially because of the point that the same people dislike if you dance a little bit more intense or even start a moshpit in the first rows at the NIN-Gig (which includes mainly germans and brits) while you've heard a lot of talking during hurt.

NIN, Depeche Mode  and Ben Howard where incredible.

And: Am I the only one who thinks that Alex Turner tries to look and act like Nick Cave? :D

Hi guys! I hope you'll help me out. I bought a simple festivalticket which includes camping. Am I going to be provided with tents, sleeping bags and stuff or do I have to bring it all by myself to the camping site?

    Red = No.

On the information it says the beach is only 15 minutes from the festival site.

    Does anyone know:

Is this on foot, by car or by public transport?

    What beach do they mean?

Do many people head to the festival from a day on the beach?

By foot. You can see it here: https://goo.gl/maps/rcPGv7i3Xms

It's not an atlantic-ocean beach, it's "just" a beach of the river Tejo.

If you want to attand a really nice beach take the train to Santo Amaro (it's the same as the one to the festivalsite) https://goo.gl/maps/bXgmdaBRuWy

Hi @with_tired_eyes - do you know how long the shuttle bus to Dessau is likely to take on the Monday morning? Specifically the first one at 6am? Do I need to book in advance or just turn up?

    Cheers

In the last years it wasn't possible to book in advance - just show up. But sometimes the queue is a little bit longer so you need to wait for the next one - better be there 30 min before it starts. I've read in an article that there's a specific shuttle-ticket which you can preorder at your wristband. That's only valid for the shuttle from the campsite to the festival-area I guess (which was free in the previous years) and not for the travel to dessau.

If you are referring to that German festival cancelling their set because they support Palestinian rights and the BDS movement then you're a bit of a creep, mate.

Isn't there a saying "what goes around, comes around?" - so if you're always the first to ask people boycott anything you should'nt be surprised if someone does that to you. (I alsorefer to another german festival, as you mentioned - last years pop.kultur)

Well, from a german point of view, this BDS thing (I only watch this from british bands) is kind of strange. But, I don't want to do a big discussion here: if you think you should support that, do that, but also live with it, if there are some consequences.

  9. The 2 times I saw QOTSA they were pretty boring - especially at festivals. And Josh Homme is an asshole.

So I would advise Portugal. The Man.

The trains will be running at 4am? That's accurate?

Yes, the trains will be running during the wohle night, as the festival announced some weeks before.
