  1. They're not even announcing any of the fringe stages or areas yet which is annoying. Having recently been in touch with Cirque de La Quirk and Hipshaker, who both run great areas/stages at the iow, neither could confirm that they would be there this year.  It all seems a bit last minute this year. I don't mind a bit of extra camping space and dancing space but I don't wanna be at an empty festival!!!!

Haha I know but he gets the gist. Depeche mode are "co" headliners and kasabian sub headliners. The killers and Liam wouldnt get a headline slot there either. :)

Don't get me wrong, I like the Killers and Kasabian, and Liam etc... but when you try to pass your festival off as a 50th anniversary and then put headliners that pale in comparison to a lot of the past 5 years you are trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes.

This line up smacks of Live Nation and what they did to V Festival.... they killed that festival.

I've made your exact point on here before and got shot down in flames.  People aren't getting that the disappointed from many iow festival regulars is that it was the organisers who built it up as a special 50th anniversary but the line up is nothing THAT special.  Of course I'm still going as the atmosphere will be great as usual, regardless who plays.

Does anyone know if you can take your own beers around the whole festival (like Glastonbury)

Or are they only allowed in certain areas (camping etc), meaning you can only buy beers from the bar at the main arena and not take your own in? (like Leeds, Kendal etc)

    Cheers

In the camping area and on the walk to the main music areas you can drink own booze but there's only a couple of small stages on this route before the security area where they check for alcohol. We normally drink at tent then maybe just one or two on this walk otherwise you've gotta ditch booze at security point. Only small sealed plastic water bottles allowed past this point. No glass allowed anywhere on festival site including camping areas.

  4. The issue I have is that for a 50th Anniversary these are not special headliners.  OK so many have a big fan base and are good live bands but at a festival your trying to cater for a broad base of people. Apart from fans of the groups, how many people will know more than just a couple of hits of each group over a one hour set?  OK maybe Depeche and Liam if he does Oasis stuff can fill over an hour with hits that the majority know but the others will struggle. Think of Queen two years ago, great live musicians,  amazing visual spectacle,  everyone know nearly all their hits. So it's a fairly standard iow festival line up this year,  not a special 50th anniversary one.  I'm glad I managed to get the early bird £135 tickets.

  5. Apart from watching Queen,  the last few years I've spent very little time watching any of the "headliners".  The best thing about this festival is all the other random stages and events - 80's tent,  cirque de la quirk,  stumbling across good acts, great atmosphere .  I bought tickets for all this and will have a great time regardless of the headliners, if they turn out to be great headliners - it's a Bonus

Been there done that, why would I go to a festival in a tent when I have a Motorhome? Glastonbury I would but that’s a whole different animal, and if by atmosphere you mean kids with NOS, overflowing toilets and tents getting slashed and stuff stolen then no thanks. We went in a tent in 2015 and whilst we didn’t have any issues, 3 tents by us all got slashed. After we  bought a cheap Motorhome we used that in 2016 and 2017, can’t think of anything we missed out on by going in a Motorhome, made friends with those around us as we do at all festivals we go 2, but added bonus of a comfy bed, cold beer, fresh running water. The walk to out Motorhome was actually shorter than where we ended up in 2015 in our tent

Fair enough, you've clearly more CV experience than me. The toilets in the camping areas have been fine last two years (unless you stupidly go to those near the burger vans) but i do get your point about lugging stuff to campsite, it's a pain although you do only do the journey twice, and on the way home it's obviously lighter luggage (no alcohol). Comfy bed sounds good though and my misses would go in a CV if we had one. For me I spend most of my holidays in hotels so camping it Bear Grylls style is part of the appeal and I take f@k all in my tent worth nicking. I personally think the ferry is the biggest rip off for larger vehicles, if it wasn't for the festival no bugger would be going to iow in June as it's outside of school holidays.

  7. All this talk about the cv prices. Just don't go in a cv then.  The cv parking area is bloody miles from the atmosphere - come on,  get your tents out and slum it a bit like the rest of us.  oh and BTW there are hot showers,  OK they're a quid but they're as good as any cv shower and it's a good atmosphere in the short queue.
