They fucked up big time by not announcing some of these bands in the first announcement. If the first one hadn't gone down so badly this would be lapped up on social media but people are giving it abuse because of the first announcement. Honestly though, replace a couple of those rappers with mid-tier indie bands, add a bigger draw like Catfish or someone over P!ATD, and then replace FOB with an actually decent headliner like Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys or even someone smaller like Royal Blood on a co-headline, and it looks really strong. Obviously there's reasons they never booked those bands but if you imagine the lineup as it is with those changes it would definitely be the strongest since 2015 (which I personally think was a very strong year, probably the best lineup since 2012 before it).

'If the lineup was completely different it would be really strong'

I love Twitter because people think Catfish/Arctic Monkeys/Foos are still in with a shot. Where exactly are people expecting them to play now all the headliners have been announced

And they’ll be FURIOUS when they don’t name them

Parklife hasn’t sold out has it?

And TRNSMT has only sold out the one day, one or two of those will probably struggle. BST has sold out more days than that I believe.

Parklife have a 'handful' of weekend tickets left according to their twitter... I really need to decide for certain about going

Yes. As shite as he is now, he's still easily bigger than Kanye and Jay-Z. Probably on a similar level to Drake, but if they can get Eminem then them getting Drake wouldn't surprise me at all.

If that is the case then it amazes me that they've gone for em twice in fairly short succession

Little mix is just cheesy manufactured pop and Kendrick is just an over hyped rapper, personally I just don’t get it at all.

Not got a problem with you not liking him but I think 'everything wrong with popular music' is a really daft statement

Really don’t get the Kendrick Lamar hype, tried and tried and saw him perform at the brits tonight. He is absolutely shocking and everything that is wrong with popular music, don’t get it I’m afraid. There are so many better acts and bands that would be much more deserving of a headlining slot.

Everything that is wrong with popular music? Honestly? To Pimp a Butterfly may as well have been a Little Mix album right

Yeah they really should've just tacked Queens on as the Friday headliner. Jack White would've also been an infinitely more interesting Sunday headliner.

Serious question: would Arcade Fire go down better than KoL at RandL? Last album aside, Arcade Fire would definitely look better on the lineup to me, but I could just be biased (and I have no idea if they were available, either).

Can only speak for myself but arcade fire would probably be enough to tempt me to buy a ticket. As it is I’m looking at getting a day ticket for Kendrick day at the most

Everyone's complaining about too much rap/grime, but the real issue is the lack of decent rock bands. KOL have been terrible for ten years, FOB and PATD were popular ten years ago, then you have The Wombats, landfill indie from 10 years ago and Papa Roach and Sum 41 who were mostly popular when I was in year 7!

I was about to say the same thing. That's where your man dudey rhino's got it wrong. Your problem is not basically the only interesting acts there, it's the washed up has-beens somehow getting headline gigs.

Having said that I'd go see Sum 41 any day haha

  9. TITP's main problem was definitely the amount of scumbags that went but I don't think that can necessarily be put down to any particular music. A lot of people would go with little to know interest in the music and every interest in getting fucked up and being morons, so it's reputation got to a point where it was recognised more for 'the sesh' (shudder) than the music. That being said, I mostly enjoyed it when I was there

Yeah if this is Wolf Alice, but I'am guessing they will go to main stage when you look how empty this day is.

Maybe next announcement they could come with something interesting DJ/Electro like Justice or so. That would make it better looking

Justice were sensational at Glastonbury last year. They're always a strong booking

I remember having the argument on here like 300 pages ago that Post Malone could potentially be as high as sub and fuck me I wish I was wrong.

Of all the people doing cool and interesting stuff with hip hop we get Post Malone's whitewashed mediocrity right up the bill. Absolute joke

What about another (probably wrong) theory:

These headliners were booked a couple of years ago. Kings of Leon released a new album, and they saw how their show at BST went down and sold and thought they could be a good booking. Equally Fall Out Boy, they saw the somewhat hype around their new album and thought it would be a good booking. And then Panic! had a sort of big anticipation surrounding their new stuff, more so alongside Fall Out Boy but still.

Maybe at the time, Arctic Monkeys hadn't fully realised their future schedule and return, and maybe that was the best R&L could find.

Then they saw the reactions to the new stuff and tours from Fall Out Boy, Kings of Leon and Panic!, but it was too late to change. They would keep hoping that there would be some way for Arctics or Foos to join the lineup, but if they said they'd already booked the headliners then it might have been too late.

Equally with the new PR company, it would take time to settle in with that and maybe all the new availability of the big headliners passed them by.

I think it's been clear to anyone keeping tabs on music that all 3 bands have been on a downward trajectory for a while. Can argue about FOB still getting commercial success, but their newer albums have been nowhere near as acclaimed/popular as their older stuff. KoL have gathered less interest with each album they've put out since Only By The Night and honestly I didn't know Panic were still putting stuff out lol
