  1. Inflammatory topic! I think it was just a bit mad and stressful trying to arrive and leave. My stress was down to the fact I hired the van and had a tight deadline to get out. We helped loads of people get vans on the field too on arrival day. I can see both sides of the story though. We were helped out in the end by a fellow camper who had a 4x4. Truly lovely people.

  2. Did anyone else stay in camper field? We were ushered o the bottom of the hill on arrival and knew instantly we would never get out of there!! It took two four wheel drives tied together to get us out. Unfortunately we left on Sunday as we knew we would never get the hired van out on time on Monday. Having a return time and all. I would love to know if people got out on Monday ok? I am gutted to have cut short the festival. Never had to do that before, I'm a veteran of KC. Been since the beginning when it was tiny, and lovely! So sad to say I don't think I will be back. We have done all methods of camping in all different fields before, in all different weather, inc deer lodge. Made a mistake this year bringing a van again. The most stressful festival I have ever been to this time! The walk of hell from camper field to arena took so long we kept missing everything. But what we did see was poor. Boring headliners with poor sound. And I would normally give plenty time to manics and stereophonics but yawn! Best stuff as usual was small lesser known bands. Best time was as always watching gypsies of Bohemia !

  3. Right, reason I asked is because different campsite traffic s filtered in through different roads. Emperor and posh yurts moving most fluidly. But all the same it is not bad entering in general either, I have never arrived at 7.30 though! So unsure. I have done 3pm Thursday, 10am Friday and 7 pm Thursday. All fine . Also arrived for yurt field, which was a bit like celebrity access! One year they messed up the road plan and it was dire, but they improved it since then. Any other questions?

  4. It was just fantastic this year. Oh how i long to be back hence browsing this site!!  Highlight was Horseman in the ever fantastic Chai Walla!  never seen him without Prince Fatty - fantastic set. also the weather - the bars - the sun - the people - loved the extra security, and there defo was a lot less knob heads .  Emperor so clean and tidy - excellent loos. Did anyone walk down to the village green? they had top notch facilities there - starting to wonder how Emperor can charge more now!

I have somehow managed to end up with a spare parking ticket if anyone is looking for one.

PM me as I'm not looking to sell on ebay and rip anyone off.

is this because you ended up with one in with your tickets , is it a 'general camping' red hanger? i think i have one too - i got my emperor hanger then hadn't a clue what that red one was for. I will sell mine too if it is defo not needed?!

  6. The car park is not far at all from the deer lodge field. The bell tents are closest then a little further up hill to the yurts and tipis. But still not far - but this year they may change the position of them. Cant believe that they have charged for the little pamper tent this year! hiring a yurt is costly enough! Showers were available in deer lodge along with chargers etc. do you have to use the emperor showers this year?

  7. I have - its fab. The luxury of not having to put up your own tent , ease of access parking wise - no queue to get in. concierge to help you to your yurt.phone charging available. nice little food outlet on site. Pamper Tent with straighteners and hair dryers included in cost. Loads of room around your yurt, no complete knackers camped next to you as they have been priced out.  just fantastic. Unfortunately i'm back in emperors this year.

Not sure if this helps as I`m in Emperors. I got my tickets today. A general entrance ticket. A separate Emperor ticket PLUS a red hanger to hang in my car for when I arrive. In theory, I thought it was an improvement on last year when no-one seemed to know what colour route they should be following and it took longer for us to get in than on previous years.

I'm in emperor too - and got a general hanger, an emperor hanger , and all the proper tickets i need. but, why do i need two hangers?

  9. they are filthy muddy showers (maybe nice on day one - but who gets as shower on day one?) they are literally a row of showers in the back of a massive wagon trailer, small space to get changed - minging curtain hanging. but at least the water is warm! - and the toilets are compost loos - which i prefer to portaloos - air flows around you as they are more open  - but still they are just a long drop over a wheelie bin full of compost

  10. hi - i stayed in live in vehicle one year - you are driving in a different way to emperor - you wont be able to drop him off and get back round easily i'm afraid. everyone in the vehicle has to have the correct ticket for the field that they are in - so he will prob not be allowed to continue with you in your van to the live in field. he could walk to his check in point - you could keep his gear - then walk to meet him to help him with it. although you wont be able to get right into emperor field itself with your live in wrist band!!   you cant officially put up a tent in the live in field - but you have an allocated marked out square on which to park - so as long as your 'awning' fits in the square  - then ok. but your friend wont have the live in field wrist band........ you have some complicated logistics going on!

  11. the parking for deer lodge is excellent. You will drive in to the site via a different entrance altogether - leading you without a queue to a small car park - running along side the deer lodge field. We were literally 30 seconds from our car last year.  There is staff to check you in and show you to your rental bellepad or whatever.  I did note the Tipis were in a further field so a bit further to walk. It is relatively close to the arena entrance - not as close as the emperor field - but still - deer lodge is well worth it.  You get less noise in the deer lodge with it being slightly further. the toilets in deer lodge were well serviced last year - and the showers well kept too.  The Octopads were very close to the loos so very very boggy ground around those - the belle pads were perfecty positioned though.the majority of campers in Deer lodge are very civilised and friendly. go for it

  12. I remember my first ever festival was glasto when i was 19 ish. and how ludicrously under prepared i was.I am now 40 - going to a festival is a very professional affair, full on equipment for cooking , weather, comfort etc. I wish i knew then what i know now as they say - the glasto experience would have been a whole lot better! Even with youth on my side - running out of dry clothes and footwear, food and money spoils the experience i feel.  Take more money than you think you will need - hide it in random places, keep your tent messy ish - if all your valuable/necessetities are in one bag - then a chance thief has an easy job of stealing that bag - gone in a flash. if you have cereal bars in socks and paracetamol in bottom of your sleeping bag - harder for thieves to have a good old rake around. you get the picture..........remember - if its bad weather people will steal anything to make their festival better - especially wellies and boots!!!! without them you are stuffed.
