  1. Anyone gotten a taxi from train station to the site before, if so how much were you? We're heading up on the Thursday night for the VIP early entry so not expecting any queues like on the Friday, wondering more for the return leg on the Monday whether to book a taxi again or just get the shuttle bus into Inverness.

  2. Aye we had a fair trek to the VIP campsite from the bus dropoffs last year, but it was worth it once there as it was about 2 minutes from tent to main stage, also handy for quick booze run back to the tent.

As to other things to do, the comedy tent always worth a check out to kill a bit of time, some pretty good acts on the lineup.

One of my favourites is just chilling on the hill doing some people watching, all sorts of characters to be found, try spotting these legends -

We never saw them in 2011, but saw them a couple of times last year.

  3. 5 weeks to go, starting to get buzzed about it now, can't say the lineup is over exciting, but have found over the last few years its the acts I've least expected that i have enjoyed the most, the bigger names have tended to disappoint (for me anyway), so looking forward to what new things this year brings.

  4. Best guess is one will be on Friday, another on Saturday, and i'll risk it by saying a third one on Sunday

(Sorry could not resist that one).

From what's been announced so far my guess is Basement Jaxx likely to be the Saturday as that's usually the main dance headliner. Is Example being touted as a headliner? If so would most likely be Friday, or The Vaccines possible. Fatboy Slim to close on Sunday?

  5. I'm fed up with all the doom and gloom about how Sonisphere can't come back from the disaster of this year. There were many factors that combined into the decision to cancel the event, get over it! I'm sure they will be back next year, the festival has only been going for a few years and was getting better each year, so i hope to see them back next year fighting fit and better than ever. How short are people's memories, Download suffered something similar a few years ago, and they came back from it.

Anyway, straying from my point, i have been to the last 2 Sonispheres as staff, so had to miss out on a good chunk of the weekend, I am thinking next year will require a stupendous effort to win people back, so would rather do it as a normal punter to enjoy everything more. My question is, who has done Rock Royalty and what are the advantages/perks over normal camping?

Either way, the 2013 Sonisphere fund has now been started.

  6. One thing against the RockNess express, our campsite neighbours had to be packed up and away for 7am on the Monday, bit harsh. Would be interested to see if they did a Scotland one though, sure they would get plenty from Glasgow/Edinburgh/Perth. Would be a darnsite more comfy than the Happybus was anyway.

VIP campsite a fair trek from the bus drop off points, which was a bugger for us, but better for those driving as it had its own carpark right next to it. The Monday trek was all uphill, but at least we were lighter doing it haha

Couldn't argue with the 2 minute walk to the arena though, excellent. Showers were the main reason i went VIP, they are amazing first thing, I managed to get them just as they were getting unlocked on the Saturday morning, Sunday went at same time and had to queue for about 15 minutes. More flushing toilets this year too, and never seemed to run out of bogroll either, got maintained fairly regularly it seemed too.

While the 2 minutes to arena was good for access it was also a nightmare for when you wanted to get some kip - afterburner never seemed to end, then the bloomin fairground rides.

I've only been to RockNess for the last two years, and done VIP for both so don't have anything to compare it against, but i think its worth the ticket price, and if you get the earlybird then its cheaper than a normal weekend camping ticket would be anyway.

  7. We found the Kopparberg fruits changed depending on what bar you went to, we preferred the staff that charged £3.70 for both haha Also got Red Bull at either £2.50 or £2 again depending where you bought it. These were the only two things i bought, and thought they were pretty reasonable for a festival. Helped that the VIP campsite was 2 minutes away so could nip back for a tinnie anytime.

  8. We had a few seconds of sun peaking through the cloud on the Friday afternoon when setting the tents up, got a massive cheer. Early Saturday evening i think the sun made an appearance again for a wee while. Stayed dry during the day and evening, some light rain around 4-6am on the Saturday. I did think it was pretty cold all weekend though, on the plus side it kept the drinks at optimum temperatures!

  9. Goldenvoice was overpowering the main stage a lot of the time too, especially if you were anywhere to the left hand side, and more so if you were in VIP. But this also created some interesting mashup mixes every now and again when it was dance act versus band.

  10. The bad... was a little disappointed in the sets from Death In Vegas, Deadmau5 and Biffy. Comedy tent was too small, with too small an entrance. Having to listen to the rubbish music from the fairground rides while in the campsite, never let up all weekend.

The good... unexpectedly enjoyed Ed Sheeran and Mumford & Sons (obv pays to go in with low expectations as both were superb) plus amazing sets from Sound of Guns, Kassidy, and the Pigeon Detectives. Got a pic with Jim King. Cuban Brothers were hilarious. Great selection of food, never ate the same things twice all weekend, especially the superb breakfast bus in VIP. The excellent short distance had to walk to arena from VIP (and back again). Better showers in VIP this year and more of them, and more toilets.

  11. I set my alarm for 5am, bus due to leave at 7am, but find myself wide awake at 4am, oh well, gonna be a long assed day. No idea how long the bus will take, but should be there by around 12, maybe have a disco nap once tent is set up, especially if its raining!

  12. Shuttle buses run regularly from the bus station to the festival, so best bet would be to get a normal bus to inverness if you can, or if you can get to any of the happybus pickup points around Scotland they take you direct to the festival.

*edit - just checked Happybus only have seats left from Aberdeen, Glasgow and Perth Broxden
