I am looking at the Octopad. Just trying to make life as easy as possible with having the 2 kids. £995 is a stupid amount of money, but if it is going to make the weekend more enjoyable for the kids then I am going to do it.
Or do you think the family camping will be calm enough (aside from me having to lump all of their crap from the car)

I'd argue that there are certain festivals, R&L being one, that can sell tickets with minimal promotion. The attendance at Leeds particularly last year doesn't scream as something that has been well promoted.
-
I've got to agree about the way R&L promote things. I think their website is poor as well.
They removed the forums and left a page to say something much more exciting was on the way and that exciting things was basically a poorly managed Facebook account on which they answer nothing and a twitter account where the most they do is artist takeovers.
This site is the place to come for anything worthwhile on R&L tbf. As long as you can be bothered to filter between the random crap of course

How about this for the Biffy day?
Biffy
FOB
Weezer
Limp Bizkit
Parkway Drive
Billy Tallent
Crossfaith
Moose Blood
EDIT: Yes I'm missing an act, who could play in the bottom 3 with Crossfaith and Moose Blood?
Day ticket sold for me!

What kind of bands/artists do we expect to slot in now then? Presume there will be more Indie and potentially pop to add to this? Any rumours flying around?
-
Marmozets in newcastle tonight were unbelievably good! Becca MacIntyre knows how to play a crowd!
However!!
It won't translate to early afternoon main stage at all. Total waste of a very very very talented band!
-
There's more of an issue with attitudes towards bands with women in - the amount of times I've heard people refer to Paramore as gay (for seemingly no other reason than they have a female front) is just saddening. Entirely uneducated on this topic so just my mostly ignorant thoughts.
Fortunately I am at the age now where that kind of line would just be laughed at as stupidity and therefore is not one I have heard
-
2008 Bring me the horizon were a dreadful band. They're improving with every album and I personally think they'll smash this sub slot
Totally agree - Suicide Season was awful, but Sempiternal was really good.
They're being touted as one of the next festival circuit headliners
-
by giving those girls some 'role models' (gawd, I hate that phrase) who aren't like Beyonce or GaGa .....?
Monkey see monkey do.
Or a halfway house that can bring some of the pop style into rock.
Closest thing that springs to mind is No Doubt, but once they became popular Gwen Stefani went solo and did pop music.

yeah can see that, would just be nice to obviously see an album out from then before R&L (this could be in the works, i don't know, not done my research...) but I'm sure it'll be good....in 2013 everyone was saying all weekend about how good they were then, so I'm excited to see what they're like....last time i saw them was 2008 opening MainStage and i thought they were dreadful (couldn't make out any of the songs, and was still wildly bitter about Slipknot cancelling)
They've got one due out at the start of the summer - hopefully in enough time to get a few listens in before the festival
-
nah its not so much that they don't fit at all....i just think that sub heading is a slot that is too big for them....3rd main at most, ill still see them and hope to be pleasantly surprised, but that slot on the MainStage is usually taken up by some huge international bands/acts.....just my 2 cents
A few people have been commenting about why it only seems to be US bands given those kind of slots so personally I am pleased to see BMTH there.
I think they deserve and their new record this year will hopefully go some way to convince people they deserve it.
Its been said here before though, historically their live performances haven't been great, heard good things about their Wembley gig though.
-
On the female fronted discussion - off to see Marmozets tonight, pleased to see them on main stage - another great live band.
Then next week a smaller gig with a band called Sertraline who (if the Rock scene ever allows women in ) could be big
-
Halestorm are awesome live. Seen them 6 times since accidentally stumbling in on them at Download 2010. Seeing them again next week. I can't understand how the likes of Paramore get so big when Lzzy Hale has so much more talent.
Absolutely amazing live. One of the few female fronted bands I've seen live that are better live than recorded.
-
It's just another PC "let's get offended on behalf of something" shitstorm in a teacup. How many disabled musicians will play?
Agree on this point
-
It's worth looking at, don't you think? People have cared for a long time - I remember doing a write up for last years disparity. As we're becoming more Feminist conscious it's likely more noise will be made about this sorta thing. It's better to get it at it's roots tho.
Worth considering yes.
Also worth considering -
How many female fronted bands are there which are actually any good?
How do we know that the likes of Halestorm and the likes weren't contacted and busy
If we single out sex, what about Skin Colour, race, sexuality etc etc

Is it just me who think Catfish are a bit shit and massively overhyped?
Doesn't that automatically qualify them as NME headliners?
-

Any chance of beartooth playing you reckon?

But don't the 'official' times you are referring to actually become official on Monday?

Kids will be 5 and 9. Having done the walk to the campsites at Leeds and Download, that is my biggest concern.
Think I might just go with the Octopad and be done with it. Then I can spend 6 months whinging about how much it cost haha
