Free stuff is never really free, we pay for it one way or another.

Yup. Brands give away 'free' stuff at events knowing it'll appear in Instagram feeds, or people will head onto Twitter or internet forums to say how great their 'free' stuff is.

Most people don't care, but I personally hate the idea of being used as free advertising space.

They've traditionally never shared a huge amount, I am presuming they both request exclusivity. But there was a couple of crossovers last year. Both festivals do quite well do have differering (and decent) lineups considering they generally land on the same weekend.

BBK added a bunch of new mid and lower level acts in April last year.

Nice one, cheers. I really want to see Kevin Morby on his tour, and it looks like he'll be playing at least one of the two (his last tour date listed is in Portugal the day before the fests start), and don't fancy waiting until April to find out, and his tour selling out.

  3. Hi everyone - another couple of questions from a first-timer.

Do BBK and Mad Cool ever share acts? I assume not as they in direct competition, but it would be good to know.

Also, any idea how many line up updates we might get, and when these may come? There's no indication on the socials that an update is coming, and it doesn't appear there's another price increase on the horizon, although my Spanish isn't the best (to say the least).

Really hoping for an Adrianne Lenker set at the crow's nest this year.. especially as I think I'll be missing big thief (who were incredible earlier this year at Shepherds bush.. as was Adrianne at EartH)

If you're missing Big Thief for Porridge Radio, I believe somebody said they have info PR are doing another set somewhere, which will surely be at Crows Nest.

I know everyone wants to talk about the bigger stages, but do we have any idea about the Sunday night TBAs, e.g. at The Rum Shack and Platform 23? Are these actually 'secret sets' or just late additions to the lineup that will be confirmed in the next few days?

I would imagine Kojey Radical will take one of those Rum Shack slots, having smashed it there when he was pretty unknown a few years ago.

There's something in it.  Follow @secretGlasto for all the information on the day! Not headliner level, though plausibly sub.

    😉

    EDIT: And not The Smile

I would be really surprised if this happens. Any high-level band playing one of the only live music stages open on the Thursday would be a crowd control nightmare.

They would basically need to close off all the routes into that field, from around 6 different directions to avoid a crush. Pulp was bad enough back in the day, and there's really only a couple of way into the park.

  7. Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere, but does anyone what sort of set Primal Scream are going to be playing? They've done a few Screamadelica sets so far this year (with more to come), but Glasto isn't listed as being that as far as I can tell.

if you had to take a punt, when would they have informed artists/booking agents that they would be announcing let's say, March/April announcement? 3 months? 3 days? I have no idea on this to be fair, in relation to Glastonbury

They all get given the "I'm playing Glastonbury" GIF to stick on Twitter, but I'm guessing they don't get those more than a few days/a week before.

I doubt there is a an actual date in the diary until quite late. Some of the big acts probably ask the festival to hold off until they've announced their own tours/shows and sold a certain percentage of tickets to these.

I think it'll be next week at the earliest. Still feels a bit early to me.

....Maybe this prolonged time together as a band will actually get Carl and Pete's creative juices flowing again....

I hope you're right, but sadly I doubt it. There was talk of them writing together back in the summer time I think, but there's been nothing since.

I know they're easy to mock, but it's kind of the sad that the most exciting band of their generation are seemingly just fizzling out. Oh well, fingers crossed these summer dates are in support of some sort of new material.

  10. I saw them just before Christmas in Bristol, and it's safe to say there is no sign of any new material. I've basically seen the same setlist for last several times I've seen them.

Doubt they'll have any new material by the summer, so I don't think we'll be seeing them this year. Probably for the best really, as there is danger that they are starting to turn into a heritage band.
