  1. Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" & Joni Mitchell's "Blue" have already been mentioned - Both these albums have been ever-present in my life for almost 40 years.

Other favourites that have stood the test of time (my criteria for inclusion) include:

Todd Rundgren - Something / Anything (Up there along with Joni & Marvin)

Counting Crows - August & Everything After (...In my opinion was crap compared to this)

    Lemonheads - It's A Shame About Ray

    Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque

Little Feat - The Last Record Album

    Roxy Music - Roxy Music

    Ryan Adams - Gold

Yes I'm a child of the 70's. Not to say that I don't dig today's music, it just hasn't been around long enough to have stood the test of time. I could go on, but I'd better not.

  2. Unfortunately by the time I worked out how to use this backdoor it was all over twitter (even though I spotted Neil's message as soon as it was posted - my crap IT skills lol) and never managed to get on sad.png. Worse still was that my brother got on and put registration numbers in and one of them was invalid as when it had been texted through to us a 9 had been put in as an 8 - gutted!!

  3. Hi everyone.

My youngest daughter Hannah & her boyfriend Daniel (they actually met whilst working at Glastonbury last year) are currently working on the site helping to set the festival up for us all.

Here's a picture Getty Images took of her working at the site last year:

    HannahGlastonbury16thJune2010-2.jpg

I'm not sure if that's a pot of paint or a cider in her left hand. If she's anything like her old man, it'll be the latter!

This year is slightly different though, as well as preparing the site, they're training, because later in the Summer, after the festival, Han & Dan are cycling from Lands End to John O' Groats for charity..and that's where you lot come in. Han's cycling for the NSPCC & Dan's cycling for The Altzheimer's Society.

For further information, our local paper did a feature on them:

    http://www.halifaxcourier.co.uk/news/local/hannah_saddles_up_for_epic_trip_on_her_recycled_bike_1_3411275

If you could spare a few quid to sponsor her for this "worthy" cause, it would be greatly appreciated she has a page on Just Giving http://www.justgiving.com/Hannah-Jones8

    - the link in the Halifax Today / Evening Courier article is wrong - Fancy a newspaper getting something wrong!

Your contributions will be gratefully accepted & if you send me your Facebook details, I'll be able keep you updated on their progress once they start their 1,000 mile trip.

    Thanking you in anticipation.

    Michael

  4. Back in '08 on the Monday morning. My girlfriend & I were breaking camp, when an old guy asked us what one of our flags were (my OH is from Bognor Regis - it was the West Sussex flag) We told him & asked him where he was from. "Here" he replied. "I'm the vicar of Pilton & I reckon I'm blessed with the best parish in the world. We couldn't have agreed with him more. Lovely fella.

  5. I don't know why but i've always enjoyed a good scavenge. I've never found much money, but found countless full packets of cigarettes. Lots of random t shirts. however my best find was just after i'd come out of dance east. was absolutely FREEZING. saw a t shirt on the floor. picked it up and it was one of those 'If Carlsberg made festivals...' tshirts. with glastonbury in big letters. Made me really smile! also found a NICE new pair of ray bans which i still have and love!

At global gathering after everyone had left on the last night. i found a tenner, a full bag of some kind of white substance, and all in one pink suit. the pink suit went on immediately, along with four pairs of sunglasses.

  6. Seeing as both these acts are in the country & playing other gigs during Glasto week, I was hoping that The Avett Brothers would make a triumphant return after their storming Avalon set last year.

I have everything crossed that Ryan Adams may be one of the TBA special guests..Especially since I had front row tickets for his Manchester / Bridgewater Hall gig as consolation, in case I didn't get a ticket in the resale.

  7. Ha ha! We heard him - From our tent (I hasten to add) in 2008. He trotted out a load of stuff nobody had ever heard before on the Pyramid to a small gathering of hard core fans; One fan even brought a green door - yes a large green door...& he didn't even play the song!

  8. Hi, apologies if this has been posted before; But I see that the Avett Brothers are playing Shepherds Bush Empire on Wednesday 22nd June. Although there are no other listed dates after this, last year they also played a London gig (Koko Camden I think) just prior to their barnstorming Avalon set (the musical highlight of last years Glasto for me).

I have my fingers crossed for the resale.

  9. Don Van Vilet, aka Captain Beefheart, has died from complications of multiple sclerosis.

He was never going to come out of retirement, but I always thought he would be the ultimate filler of the legend slot if he could be persuaded.

    :(

  10. Just told her the replies and as i though there is no way she will do communal showers,i know some will not understand why !!!,but its the way she is and i would not want to change her at all. I don't think even i would be that keen on male communal showers, and at festivals in the past i have allways done the tent bathing. From what she is saying now i don't think she will be coming,it wouls have been her first Glastonbury, took me a while to get her to even consider going, but even booking tickets for 2011 she was never very keen on what she calls " roughing it ". So i will be going on my own this time.... :)

  11. Van Morrison, York Barbican Centre, sometime in the 90s. He came on at 7.30, played for an hour without saying a word, and then his hat fell off (seriously). At this, he left the stage, until a roadie picked the hat up and returned it to his head. But at the end of that song, that was it, without even a thankyou and goodnight. I was home for 9, and my wife assumed it had been cancelled.
