Vamos Festival returns for its 7th edition for six weeks from Friday 1st June to Sunday 15th July 2012 with events across the North East celebrating the culture and vibrancy of Latin and Lusophone (Portuguese speaking) cultures.
Latin American acts including Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Omar Puente, Los Independientes del Vallenato, Jaime Gili, Lokandes, Arto Lindsay, Domingo Candelario and Carnival acts.
The programme features the UK premieres of visual art exhibitions and ilms, Latin American artists commissions as part of the celebration of the Cultural Olympiad, performances by leading Latin DJs and musicians, a large scale Tyne Carnival procession with the general public in the centre of Newcastle, talks, language cafes and workshops.
This year's festival features a Frida Kahlo visual art exhibition, arts commissions with Latin American artists as part of the celebration of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, Brazilian cinema, club nights with leading Latin DJs, a large scale Carnival procession with the general public, talks, language cafes and Peña Flamenca performances, workshops and more.
The days also include live contemporary and traditional Latin music, vibrant visual art exhibitions, authentic Latin cuisine and outdoor picnics, enlightening talks and thought provoking discussions.

Events
Highlight include an outdoor carnival commission Keep Your Hat On with musician Arto Lindsay on the River Wear in Durham, the return of the Tyne Carnival, a host of film screenings, the Outdoor Picnic at Summerhill Bowling Club, The Stand hosts an afternoon Terrace party after the Carnival, a late night Latin party, and events in County Durham for the first time.Latin American acts including Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Omar Puente, Los Independientes del Vallenato, Jaime Gili, Lokandes, Arto Lindsay, Domingo Candelario and Carnival acts.
