Lewisham People's Day 2009


Lewisham People's Day, is south east London's biggest and longest running FREE community festival, and this year is it's 25th year. The event happens on Saturday 11th July in Mountsfield Park, in Catford, London.

The line-up is as follows:
The Broadway Stage: The Dualers, London Breakfast Orchestra, The Zoomerators, Sandal St, Yokoko, Lewisham Music Service, Lewisham Schools Concert Band, Deptford Green Steelband, Abyss, Gosplosion, Vortex, Pressure Sounds.

The Albany Stage: The James Taylor Quartet, Brassroots, Zena Edwards and band, The Gentle Mysties, Apples and Snakes, Best of Albany Unplugged, DJ Bid, MC Scoundrel, Fresh, Poems Alive.

The Village Green: Harare Dread, Liam O'Sullivan's Gasta, Cut-a-Shine, Bollywood Ballroom Tea Dance, Katy Carr, Lewisham Concert Band, Plaster of Paris, Recommended Daily Allowance, Brockley Ukulele Group, Simon Sheffield, Run, Polina Proutskova.

The festival will be split into four areas and there will be nearly 100 community stalls, fun for kids, Rocklands Stage, Flying Fox, Rolling Sound, Solar Cinema, Acoustic Arts Cafe, Dance for Life, Circus Workshops, Wicked Faerie, Bandstand, Cake and Ale Tavern, Young Mayor Presents, Youth Village, Get Active Arena, Sports Field, Colourscape, Flying Fox, International Food Stalls, Street Theatre, Extreme Bike Arena, Craft Market, Rocklands, Love Lewisham, Fancy Dress, Highjart, Community information and much more.

To mark the 25th year of People's Day everyone has been invited to join in the fun and come along to the festival in fancy dress. People are being encouraged to don an 80s outfit, dress up as a Lewisham landmark or wear something silver to reflect the Silver jubilee. Anyone deciding to sport fancy dress on the day will be encouraged not to miss the fancy dress gathering on the Village Green.

In addition to the fancy dress people are being invited to bring in pictures or memorabilia to help create a display exploring the 25 years of Lewisham history since the first People's Day.

There is no public parking at the event except for Blue Badge parking, which can be accessed via Stainton Road. Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the event. There are bike park facilities, located by the George Lane park entrance.
