The Wailers

Glastonbury Festival 2005 - reviews

By Scott Williams | Published:

The Wailers – Jazzworld, Sunday

Fantastic! Where better in the world to hear those classic Bob Marley songs than right here at the Jazzworld Stage played by the irrepressible Wailers. Their set is packed with crowd favourites and it’s good vibes and classic tunes all the way to the sunshine inducing ‘Don’t Worry About a Thing’ and possibly the most suitable music for the Jazzworld ever, just a shame Bob couldn’t be there to sing all these classic tracks.

The Brothers’ Bar cider was flowing as ‘No Woman No Cry’ danced it’s way from the stage. I was slightly confused that the crowd wasn’t rammed considering all these Bob Marley classics and the fact it was Glastonbury, but I guess the demographic of who goes to festivals means there are some people who may have never heard of Marley on site this weekend. A shocking thought I know!

They play most of the classics, with a hugely danceable bassy reggae beat and it’s just glorious. Aston Barrett and Earl Lindo are suitably bedecked in rasta hats and customised marijuana leaf Adidas track suits with Gary 'Nesta' Pine looking not unlike Bob doing fantastic work on vocals. There’s a fantastic horn section and a couple of backing singers and it’s a glorious afternoon to be remembered for sometime. The Wailers ‘livened up’ Glastonbury and put a huge smile on my face for the day!
