Jeff Green

Glastonbury Festival 2000 reviews

Jeff Green
Cabaret Marquee
21:15 Friday 23rd June 2000

The understated appearance and manner of Jeff Green fitted perfectly into the mellow atmosphere of the Cabaret Tent on Friday evening. The crowd had been warmed up by the talented New Zealander Nick Nicolas who had demolished any potential hecklers. So, Green came on to a friendly audience who were open to a few good laughs.

At first Green's performance only mustered a few giggles, but gradually the audience chuckled and then laughed uproariously. He simply commented on personal observations of men, women and animals, but he did so with great skill and finesse. He could see the audience were slightly apathetic and worked with them, rather than railing against their weak responses to his questions.

Green's comments on 'pet passports' and Mohammed Al Fayed's inability to gain similar citizenship drew roars of laughter from the crowd. He made similarly acute observations on men and women, particularly noting the way in which the 'weaker sex' manage to hold on to the duvet in the middle of the night!

This typically calm Glastonbury 2000 audience were in the midst of laughter at Jeff Green's sharp wit when we had to leave it. We were certainly sad to go.
