Brand New Heavies

Glastonbury Festival 2000 reviews

Brand New Heavies
Pyramid Stage
14:30 24th June 2000

"Ready for some brunchtime tunes" was the cry as the Brand New Heavies took to the pyramid stage at lunchtime on Saturday. A very chilled but reasonably sized audience assembled and those who were vertical (many weren't but then it's still a bit early really!) were ready for a bop.

Straight in then with Dream Come True, followed shortly by Midnight at the Oasis, Give Me one of Those, You've got a friend, Apparently Nothing etc etc. One after the other of instantly recognisable great pop tracks which had the crowd singing along and gently boogying away.

The band was made up of a 'very tight!' horns section (particularly cool sax played by Jim), 3 on backing vocals, a keyboard in addition to the core of Andrew Levy, Simon Bartholomew and Jan Kincaid producing their trade mark smooth and silky acid jazz (or whatever it is) with Carleen Anderson's soulful vocals giving them an edge they have perhaps missed in previous incarnations. They are great at what they do and were the perfect line up for a chilled audience on an early Saturday afternoon at Glasto…yeah!
