Butterfly caught up with Idlewild's Roddy Woomble...

Who are you going to see this weekend?

Ooh, I don't know. I want to see the Pet Shop Boys. I'm a big fan.

Do you go to many festivals?

Well we're playing a lot of festivals. Last year we did Reading and T In The Park and this year we're doing all of them.

Do you prefer festivals to gigs?

I prefer gigs. Just because people know who you are and like your songs.

Did you go to festivals when you were younger?

I went to Glastonbury four years in a row when I was 15, 16, 17, 18… I haven't been to many since because I've been in a band for three years now. I like T In The Park though, there's something about Scottish festivals…

Where are you from in Scotland?

Glasgow, and I still live there.

What do you love most about it?

It's difficult to explain. There's a certain heritage in Scotland that a lot of places don't have. There's a certain pride, and a certain something about it. It's difficult to explain. I just like it.

So maybe Scotland will become the new Wales in terms of producing music?

It's always been good… for the past twenty years… there have always been some phenomenal bands from Scotland and that's not going to change. I don't think it's going to be the new 'anything', it's always going to remain as it is.

If you could play one song at a festival that isn't yours - what would it be?

At T In The Park, Lulu's on before us, so we're thinking of doing a version of 'Shout'...

We'll wait in anticipation Roddy...
