John Otway

Glastonbury Festival 1999

By Neil Greenway | Published:

Cabaret Marquee, Saturday 26th June

I always catch Otway at Glastonbury - it's tradition!

This year, his performance (with Richard) brought him a new crowd of fans. In his madcap style he took the same great pleasure in performing his 1977 (one) hit (wonder) "Cor Baby That's Really Free", followed by the B-side, which as he rightly points out, sold as many copies.

"BodyTalk" saw him using his body as the drumkit, while covers "Blockbuster" and "House of the Rising Sun" not only allowed the crowd to provoke Otway further, it gave Richard a chance to show of his heavy metal guitar skills.... that is, until Otway unplugged him.

Finishing with "Headbuts", he ensured the death of yet more microphones.

Yet again, his performance managed to get the crowd on their feet to give him a standing ovation.
