Celtica - review by : mike.e

Glastonbury Festival 1999

By eFestivals Newsroom | Published:

Wise Crone, Saturday 26th June

We saw this band on the Thursday, opposite the WC and were so impressed that we all felt that we had to see the main performance and what a performance it was!

Celtica are a fusion of Celtic music and hard thrash guitar with Hawkwind overtones and Turkish flavours, this band were truly awesome!

The fast and furious fiddle sent the crowd into a frenzy as the guitar rifts gave you the shivers. The mixture of Turkish music was a curious one but really worked as the sounds mutated into a kind of ambient background only to be picked up again by the fiddle. The entire set was fantastic and finished with some trance with blew everybody away and left the crowd crying for more.

Overall the performance was one of the best of the festival and this review does it no favours as our memories are a little hazy. If you see Celtica on a listing, go see them...you will be surprised...
