Cardiacs - review by : mike.e

Glastonbury Festival 1999

Greenpeace Tent, Sunday 27th June

Despite all my friends being dedicated disciples of the Cradiacs, this was my first time to witness one of their gigs.

Prior to this I had heard their CD's and decided that they were a little too weird for me but that I had to see them live; at least once.

They were due on at midnight but, apparently, in true Cardiac style they kept the crowd waiting for at least ten minutes...all of a sudden they were on, 'twang'...they were off at full pace. Abuse was pouring in from all directions and the crowd went mental.

I can not describe the sound other than it is a mixture of all sorts blended into their own style...sort of hard core punk meets new age meets melodic pop...man to this day I still don't know.

What did I think...well an evening of techno didn't help me with my opinion but I did enjoy it and will have to go see them again but 'in the right frame of mind'...my mate Batty put it perfectly..."You need to be at the front for an hour before hand to hype yourself up...have plenty to drink"...Batty my old mate...too bloody true! Good though...lots of potential...
