Frome Festival 2009


The Frome Festival is now in its ninth year, and will take place from Friday 3rd until Sunday 12th July.

The annual ten-day Frome Festival is Somerset's largest community festival, with more than 160 events held at various venues in and around the town.

The first acts confirmed are:
The Imagined Village on Friday 3rd July, tickets are priced at £18.
Levellers on Wednesday 8th July, tickets are priced at £21.
The Boot Hill All Stars & Who's Afear'd on Wednesday 8th July, at The Griffin, Milk St, Frome
Imelda May on Thursday 9th July, tickets are priced at £10.

Plus Adrian Edmondson, and Still Black Still Proud, starring Mercury-prize nominee Ty and The Mahotella Queens. The premier classical event sees world-ranked harpsichordist David Wright play J.S. Bach and discuss a childhood link to East End gangsters, The Kray Twins.

Frome Festival celebrates the work of Benjamin Baker, the Frome engineer who designed the Forth Bridge, with a series of art and educational events. The festival also offers dozens of walks, talks, and workshops which actively involve, not only the local community, but thousands of visitors to the town. It is expected that up to 180 events will take place over the ten days.

Other events are likely to include performances at the Cheese & Grain, and the 5th Frome International Lying Championship at the Griffin Inn, The World Food Feast, Art Car Boot, Writers' Day, the Green Fair, Frome Tunnels, Somerset's scariest haunted walk and much more. The festival features classical, jazz, folk, and world music, plus literary events, film, art, walks, talks, and exhibitions throughout the town and surrounding area, drama productions, events for children and attracts performers from all over the world.
