Burns an' a that! 2007


This traditional celebration of the acclaimed Scottish poet is now in its sixth year, and takes place from 23rd - 28th May.

There will be a wide range range of entertainment showcasing contemporary and traditional Scottish culture, and taking place both in town centres and in rural locations; from poetry, and traditional and classical music, to radical new theatre, cabaret, and pop music, plus dance and film.

As well as such regulars as the Mauchline Holy Fair, there are also new events such as Rock At The Racecourse. Some of this year's programme is planned as follows:
Rock at the Racecourse - 26th May - includes The Saw Doctors and Deacon Blue supported by local singer/songwriter Kieron Docherty.
Burns an’ a’ that! Festival Gala Concert - Sunday, 27th May - at the Ayr Racecourse. The Orchestra of the Scottish Opera, conducted by Garry Walker, will be joined by festival favourites Phil Cunningham and Karen Matheson, with special guest Marti Pellow (Wet Wet Wet).

There's a Festival Club at the Bon Vivant Spiegletent in Wellington Square from Thursday, 25th - Sunday 27th May, featuring a diverse line-up of artists such as King Creosote with Pictish Trail (Friday); Jim Malcolm & Kris Drever with ‘Tam O’ Shanter & Other Songs’ followed by Motherfunk (Saturday); and a free lunchtime jazz show with the Brian Kellock Trio on Sunday, plus later in the day the MacDonald Brothers, will perform before the final Fringe Club act, Fred Morrison & Friends with Michael Marra.

There will be also be a continental food market, street theatre, acoustic set from Idlewild at Dean Castle Courtyard, helicopter/horse drawn rides, a funfair on Low Green, drama from various theatre companies and classical music performances in old country houses.
