Brass 09 2009


Durham International Brass Festival celebrates brass music from around the world, from the sounds of Eastern Europe, to those of New Orleans. This year's festival, which runs from Saturday 4th until Sunday 19th July brings together the best of current and emerging brass-inspired music.

Brass is everywhere and is used in all kinds of music - DIBF features performances of R'n'B, funk, soul, Balkan gypsy, traditional brass bands, classical and more.

With big names and big bands, the Durham Miners Gala, and various contests; plus other smaller up-and-coming acts and artists; as well as workshops, the festival has something for everybody.

The line-up includes Balaclava, Beat'n'Blow, Bella Tromba, Big Chris Barber Band, Black Dyke Brass Band, Boban Markovic Orkestar, Brass Monkey, Brass Volcanoes, Byron Wallen, DJ Bass Clef,Durham County Youth Big Band & Teesdale School Soul Band, El Autentico Tamborazo Zacatecano, Express Brass Band, Femi Kuti and The Positive Force, Global Kryner, Hot 8, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Issie Barratt with the Voice of the North Jazz Orchestra feat. Steve Waterman, Jimi Tenor and Kabu Kabu, Johann Johannson and Ensemble, Kid iD, L'Imperial Kikiristan (France), La Bottine Souriante, Le Gros Tube (France), Mnozil Brass, Oompah Brass (UK), Orichalcum, Portico Quartet, Sarah Kenchington, The Destroyers, The Reg Vardy Band, The Stars from the Commitments, These Monsters, Toni Kitanovski and Cherkezi Orchestra (Macedonia), and Top Dog Brass (Germany).

Performances are held at different venues across the city and county. Costs vary for each performance - many activities are free.
