Senegalese singer and guitarist Baaba Maal leads the first acts revealed for Celtic Connections's programme of folk, roots, world, traditional, indie, blues & jazz for the forthcoming festival that happens in numerous venues around Glasgow from Thursday 14th until Sunday 31st January 2016.

The acts confirmed include Ron Pope & The Nighthawks, Lucinda Williams, Jason Isbell, John Grant, Rachel Sermanni, James Yorkston, The Pictish Trail, Withered Hand, They Might Be Giants, and 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band & Guests presenting 'Live in Ireland 87' Piping Concert with guests including Chris Armstrong, Ryan Canning, Ian Duncan, Stuart Liddell, Steven McWhirter, Duncan Nicholson, Richard Parkes, Terry Tully, Ross Walker, John Wilson, and Bob Worrall.

Celtic Connections 2016 has an adventurous programme embracing Celtic music's connections with musical genres and cultural traditions from across the globe. The festival brings more than 2100 artists to Glasgow to perform to more than 100,000 concertgoers over 18 days at 300 events in over 20 venues. Plus the nightly Celtic Connections Festival Club, and Late Night Sessions at The Concert Hall.
