Festival organiser and farmer Michael Eavis has announced that Joan Armatrading, and The Shires will be performing in the ancient Glastonbury Abbey's grounds for this year's 19th annual Glastonbury Extravaganza which will take place on Saturday, 8th August and will end with the traditional firework display.

They join Ray Davies who will headline this year's event, the 19th in what has become a summer tradition for the West Country.

Michael Eavis said, "These are two fantastic acts which along with Ray will really make a superb Extravaganza; from Joan, who is a legend and has performed for 42 years plus has numerous awards and hits under her belt, to The Shires, who are making a name for themselves within months of being formed. It will truely be a night to remember."

Janet Bell, Abbey director, added, "To have these world-class performers showcasing their talent in the abbey grounds is going to make a for a wonderful event. We are so grateful to Michael for making it possible. It is bound to be a summer highlight for many."
