Florence + The Machine is the first act to be announced for the opening day of BBC Radio 1's 12th annual free Big Weekend will take place in Earlham Park, in Norwich taking place over three days from Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May 2015.

The news was announced by Nick Grimshaw on the station's Breakfast Show this morning. Florence Welch said, "It's really exciting. I love festivals and I love playing them." Florence and her Machine have appeared at the event three times before, at Swindon in 2010, swiftly followed by a headline performance in Bangor 2011 and then in Hackney in 2012.

As well as Florence who takes to the main stage on Saturday, Taylor Swift, tops the bill on Sunday,  with local act Context the only other name announced.

Headline artists and a full line-up of international and UK artists, bands and DJs will be confirmed in the coming months.

Tickets will be free and are obtained through a lottery. There is no charge for the concert itself, but a handling fee per ticket will be applied to help cover all associated ticket handling costs. The majority of the tickets for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend 2015 are being allocated to people living in Norfolk and the surrounding boroughs.
