Today the website sonisphere.co.uk site has changed to reveal that the Sonisphere team will be celebrating "40 years of festivals at Knebworth Park."

The new event is slated as happening from Friday 4th until Sunday 6th July 2014.

No headliners have been confirmed yet by promoters. Tickets prices have not been revealed either.

The first ever festival at Knebworth, in 1974, was headlined by The Allman Brothers Band, with Pink Floyd appearing the following summer. Since then the venue has hosted Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Oasis and Robbie Williams over the decades.

The first Sonisphere at Knebworth in 2009 was headlined by Metallica, and Linkin Park, with Metallica closing the festival. Metallica took a year out in 2011 with Alice Cooper, German industrial metallers Rammstein and Iron Maiden headlining in 2010. They returned for the third edition to feature in thrash metal’s Big 4 with Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth joining them, with the other headliners Biffy Clyro and Slipknot.

There has been no UK Sonisphere since 2012, with two fallow years at Knebworth.
