HMS Bestival welcomes aboard World Music Day

joining forces with fellow island festival Rhythmtree

The nautical themed 10th Bestival which returns to Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight from Thursday 5th until Sunday 8th September 2013 has teamed up with another island festival to mark World Music Day.

Fête de la Musique (or World Music Day) originated in France in 1982and has spread across the globe with each event holding to the same set of principles: that the day is held on the mid-summer solstice and that all concerts and events are free to the public with a non-profit making objective.

Whilst Global World Music Day takes place each year on the 21st June in more than 104 countries and 514 cities around the world. Bestival's World Music Day will take place at the solar powered Bestival Bandstand on Saturday 7th September.

The line-up will be curated by Rhythmtree Festival with organiser Gerry Priddle able to showcase typical bands on their line-up that they bring to the Island every year to the Bestival crowd.

The line-up will include AJ Holmes and the Hackney Empire, London Afrobeat Collective, The Heritage Survival Band, Lokandes , Little Axe, Airtist, Modeste Hugues, By The Rivers, Muha, Tantz, Myles Sanko, Martin Newnham, Goat Roper Rodeo Band, Cable Street Collective, Mama con Yuka & Amazee, Electric Jalaba, Rabbit Foot, and The Ouse Valley Singles Club.

The skipper of HMS Bestival Rob da Bank said, "There's a lot of amazing music in this world and we only really ever hear a tiny amount of it, so I'm really pleased that the chaps from Rhythmtree have put together such a great line-up for our World Music Day. Taking over our solar powered bandstand in the Tomorrow's World field, all day on Saturday, you'll be able to sample the delights our planet has to offer from Malaysian mayhem to Ghanaian soul and don't forget to have a bit of tea and cake from the Women's Institute while you're there!"

Headlined by Elton John and Snoop Dogg and a wealth of musical wonders including MIA, Franz Ferdinand, Wu-Tang Clan, The Flaming Lips, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, The Strypes, Tom Odell, Jagwar Ma,Bastille, any more. As well as the music, Bestival has the world's biggest fancy dress party for 50,000 festival goers. The festival also offers a vibrant mix of cocktail bars, laughter clubs, a farmers market, kids area, dancing, magical moments and more, as one of the most colourful events on the festival calendar.

Tickets for Bestival including entry from Thursday 4th September are priced at £190 for Adult Tickets and £127 for Teen (age 13-17) Tickets. For those arriving on or after Friday 5th September adult tickets are priced at £180. Tickets for children (age 12 & under) are free (but must have a ticket). A campervan ticket is priced at £90 (per vehicle), and car parking is priced at £11 advance (or £15 cash on arrival).
