The BBC are reporting that London's Olympic Stadium is set to be re-opened in late July with a series of music events and festivals around the anniversary weekend this summer.

Concert promoters expressed interest in the venue after were impressed by the live music at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics and Paralympics which featured acts including Coldplay, Rihanna, Arctic Monkeys, The Who, Spice Girls, Jessie J, Madness, Pet Shop Boys, and George Michael.

Dennis Hone, chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, told the BBC, (here), "The exciting thing for us is that we have the opportunity to put on some major events in the park - some music events and festivals and an anniversary weekend on 27 and 28 July. We hope to announce the content in the coming weeks."

Though final contracts are yet to be signed, but THE BBC reveals the plan is for some events traditionally held at Hyde Park to relocate to the stadium. Live Nation, who has staged concerts and festivals in the London park for over ten years, and run both Wireless and Hard Rock Calling, have said they are currently seeking new venues to host these events. It looks as though the promoters will be moving their some of their concerts traditionally held at Hyde Park east to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

This follows news late last year (here), that their rivals AEG Live, one of the world's leading entertainment and sports presenters will the new partners with Royal Parks in a new five year deal to produce a new event in Hyde Park from this summer summer.

Promoters AEG Live will work with The Royal Parks to deliver six summer concerts each year, expected to be in the format of two weekends (Friday to Sunday) in a new format developed exclusively for Hyde Park.

AEG Live is planning a very different set up in Hyde Park to that previously run by Live Nation, with an eco-friendly stage made of living trees and plans to placate locals, angered in recent years by noise levels and disruption caused by the big gigs. The live firm are planning to make these premium unique and bespoke events high ticket priced, aimed at more affluent festival-goers with organic food stalls and treehouse viewing platforms. AEG's Hyde Park events will take place in late June and early July.

More details of events this summer at Hyde Park, and the Olympic Stadium will be announced soon.
