Melvin Benn boss of Festival Republic has told BBC 6Music that he is considering possibly launching a brace of new festivals next year.

Festival Republic the UK-based festival and event promoter already have a portfolio including Reading and Leeds, Latitude and The Big Chill in the UK, as well as Electric Picnic in Ireland, and Hove Festival in Norway.

The festival boss revealed he is considering launching a new event next year, possibly a twin event, with the main focus not being on musical acts, although he wouldn't reveal what exactly the focus would be.

Benn was speaking to the radio station in an interview for their report on festivals (which eFestivals also contributed to) and revealed, "Some people that I'm talking with have a great festival concept. I feel very excited about it and I've got a very good feeling it will happen."

The festival boss added that it was "too early" to reveal the details for the events which he felt there was "a market for a festival in a space that doesn't currently exist."

Benn also recently told eFestivals that he was considering moving the weekend that The Big Chill would be held on because it clashed with the Olympics, but said it had not been decided if it would move "earlier or later" in the year.

Radio 6 listeners can expect there to be a repeat of the piece in full during the news section of Radcliffe and Maconie who are on the station from 1pm today.
