For the first year August's The Big Chill Festival will hold a charitable bike ride named the Tour de Chill from Bristol. The Tour De Chill is also a fundraising event and environmental initiative.

The inaugural Tour de Chill will take place on Thursday 4th August, from Bristol to The Big Chill site, a total of 70 kilometres, with One of The Big Chill's official charity partners, Bristol-based KOP (Kenyan Orphan Project), will benefit from the money raised by the initiative.

Participants are asked to fundraise a minimum amount of £150 (plus a £50 registration fee) for the challenge; in return they will be given a weekend ticket to The Big Chill 2011 upon completion of their cycling challenge.

Participants will also receive refreshments during the ride, a limited edition Tour de Chill T-Shirt not to mention hot water showers and a well-deserved massage waiting for them as they get on site! Their festival bags and camping essentials will also be driven to the site ahead of the biking party.

Tour de Chill will raise essential funds for KOP www.KOPafrica.org, allowing them to provide vital support to orphans and vulnerable children through health, nutrition and education programmes in Kenya. In October 2010 a team of Festival Republic and KOP bikers completed 435km in 5 days in Kenya in a similar fundraising appeal for KOP.

Information on how to register for Tour de Chill can be found on The Big Chill website. Everyone registering at The Big Chill Bar, Bristol, in person, will receive a free drink, 'The Big Chill Punch'.

Andrew Chalinder, Director of KOP said, "KOP is really excited about the Tour de Chill and the opportunity it provides for raising funds that will benefit vulnerable children in Kenya at a time when the region faces the worst drought for more than 60 years. Just think of the smile you'll be bringing to a child's face when those thighs burn!"
