Thomas Dolby
1980's music star, Thomas Dolby is to play at The Green Gathering 2011 on Sunday 30th July following his "different era's of music" gig at London's Royal Albert Hall. Dolby, famous in the 80's for his 'Golden Age of Silence' album featuring the hit, 'She blinded me with Science' is back in the music business following years in the USA running a highly successful tech company called Beatnik.

He writes and records aboard his solar and wind powered lifeboat in the garden of his Suffolk home. After a 20 year break from the music business, this March he released his new album, 'A Map of the Floating City'.

Steve Muggeridge, Director of the Green Gathering 2011, said, "We are delighted to have Thomas Dolby play for us and honoured that he has accepted an invitation to play on our solar powered stage. Many of us remember him in the 80's and his fans will be delighted that he has returned to the music scene after his years in America."

Dolby joins a line-up that includes Nathan Ball, Mal Webb, Dub The Earth, Carrie Tree, Flutatious, Munk 777, Seize The Day, Red Diesel, The Trolley Men, Two Man Ting, Akahum, and Seventh Sense Band. Confirmed speakers include Dr Chris Busby on Fukushima, Jay Griffiths author, Transition Towns, UKuncut, 9/11 new evidence and Smallholdings for beginners. There's healing and therapies, esoteric alternative and Earth Energies, and popular astrologer Steve Judd will be in attendance.

This event comprises of many of the people who have been involved with the Big Green Gatherings in the past so it will contain all of the features of the BGG but on a smaller scale.

The 2011 Green Gathering follows the tradition of environmentally and ethically conscious events that have been known for over 30 years. These gatherings developed into the main 'green' events in Britain, if not the world, showcasing future technologies, alternative ways of life and inspired many people to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle before Green Living became mainstream.

The 2011 Green Gathering promotes and platforms sustainable lifestyles through combining education with entertainment.

Powered by renewable energy it will also host lively family gathering favourites including ethical markets, organic catering, speakers and films, music and cabaret stages, healing and holistic therapies as well as a variety of esoteric alternatives, traditional British crafts and workshops. There will naturally be a very fun, creative, energetic children's area. At The 2011 Green Gathering families are invited to play and learn together, relax and have fun.

The gathering is inclusive and 100% accessible with a specialist area with a team of dedicated people that will be able to assist with additional and specialised needs. The first ever Transition Area will network the Transition Towns movement and showcase local initiatives started by groups of people nationwide for the benefit of their community and for the environment, raising local awareness of the inevitable result of climate change and the end of cheap abundant oil.

An adult ticket is priced at £90, a teen (aged 12-16 years) ticket is priced at £50, with free entry for kids (aged under 12). A car parking ticket is priced at £20, motocycle parking is £10, and a caravan or campervan ticket is priced at (an additional) £10. All towed caravans will be required to buy a Car Park Pass AND a Caravan Pass. To buy tickets, click here.

The Green Gathering 2011 aims to encourage people to rethink how they live their life's and to inspire them and their families to recycle, reuse and reduce, to become more self-reliant, to grow their own food, to learn a new skill and use public transport, all small practical steps to ease the negative impact modern society is having on the environment.
