Isle of Wight aims to increase capacity

Isle of Wight Festival organisers are making a bid to increase capacity by 20,000 festival goers. The three-day event is licensed for 70,000 but promoters want to increase that to 90,000 for the 10th anniversary this year.

Tickets for this year's festival from Friday 10th until Sunday 12th June 2011 at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight have already all gone, and if the licensing application is approved it would see more tickets available.

According to a news article in The Isle Of Wight County Press (here) an application has been submitted by promoters Solo to the Isle of Wight Council under the Isle of Wight Act, the legislation which controls major events on the Island. The organisers are also it reveals seeking to increase space for backstage crew and staff at Seaclose Park.

The cabinet member responsible for community safety, Cllr Barry Abraham, reveals in the article that there will be a full public consultation once a full licensing application has also been submitted, which must be done before Monday 12th April. The article also reveals that some concerns have raised by some of the local council that the numbers would then be too high and would cause problems for Newport residents.

Kings Of Leon will headline the Friday, Foo Fighters and the reformed Pulp appear on Saturday, and Kasabian closing the festival on Sunday, with The British Pink Floyd Show headlining the Big Top on Saturday, and The Manic Street Preachers on Sunday. Other acts include Tom Jones, Jeff Beck, Beady Eye, The Script, Plan B, Public Image Ltd. (PiL), Cast, Hadouken!, Nick Lowe, and more.
