Bjork will unveil 'Biophilia', a brand new three week music & multimedia residency at Manchester International Festival. The residency will include six intimate live performances of new songs and the introduction of companion apps, invented instruments and more.

Bjork
The shows, her first UK dates in over three years, will take place in Campfield Market Hall which holds audiences of 1,800, and will feature a range of specially conceived and crafted instruments, among them a bespoke digitally-controlled pipe organ; a 30 foot pendulum that harnesses the earth's gravitational pull to create musical patterns - creating a unique bridge between the ancient and the modern; a bespoke gamelan-celeste hybrid; and a one-off extraordinary pin barrel harp. These devices make visible some of the physical processes that are the subject matter of tracks.

Alex Poots, Festival Director said, "It's an honour to be working with Björk to help her premiere these ambitious live shows and we look forward to taking this residency to key cities around the world."

The Manchester International Festival takes place from Thursday 30th June until Sunday 17th July 2011 at venues all over the city and draws on the city's role in music, with the programme usually focusing particularly on new music. The festival also has concerts premiered during the event by established and emerging international musicians.

Tickets for the Bjork shows taking place on 30th June, and the 3rd, 7th, 10th, 13th and 16th July will be priced at £45, and are not yet on sale, eFestivals will have links for you to buy them once they are.
