Rumours that Ireland's Oxegen may not happen next year are unfounded eFestivals has discovered.

A story in today's local newspaper, the Leinster Leader, (here), has suggested that Ireland's Oxegen festival organiser MCD may pull the plug on next year's event due to rising costs.

However having spoken to festival organisers today eFestivals can reveal that the event staged by MCD is due to return in July next year, subject to the licence being agreed.

The article revealed that the management of Punchestown Racecourse, Nass, Co.Kildare which has hosted the event since 2004 were very concerned at the possibility of the festival being cancelled and believed that MCD were reviewing the viability of the festival after lower attendances this year, the effects of the recession, ticket prices, and the costs of staging the event.

Racing manager Richie Galway told the paper that the event is the difference between the racecourse being viable or not, saying, "Any concern we have about the concert is worrying and it is valuable to us because it is staged at a time of the year when horse racing does not take place. We have heard little information from the organisers and we understand that all the costs of staging the concert are being reviewed by the promoters."

However having spoken to organisers, eFestivals can reveal that Oxegen fans can rest assured that the event is still planning to happen next year.
