African superstar Baaba Maal has been announced as the Sunday headliner for the 36th Trowbridge Village Pump festival.

Baaba Maal
Maal's new album 'Television' will be out on June 1st, and he always puts on a great show! You might have been luck enough to catch him on Later with Jools Holland recently?

Unfortunately - so say Trowbridge Village Pump - "Shane MacGowan's agent has had to withdraw all the upcoming tour on the grounds of his lack of confidence in Shane's ability to guarantee his satisfactory attendance at his gigs. An apology to those who wished to see him but we have been able to persuade Baaba Maal to headline for us in his stead and we feel certain you will be delighted with him!"

Trowbridge Village Pump festival happens at Stowford Manor Farm, Wingfield, near Trowbridge, in Wiltshire and features internationally-known acts from the world of Roots/Folk and Blues music, and takes place in 2009 from Thursday 23rd until Sunday 26th July.

The 2009 line up includes Seth Lakeman, Alabama 3, Edward II, Loudon Wainwright III, Saw Doctors, Adrian Edmondson & the Bad Shepherds, Woodpigeon, Luka Bloom, King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys, Steve Knightley, Ross and Jarleth, Achanak, Roy Bailey and Tony Benn, Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, Ian Siegal, and Hazmat Modine. See here for the line-up details to date.

All events take place in marquees and the compact site with three separate stages plus a childrens tent, comedy evening, workshops covering a wide range of interests, beer tents, and a myriad of trade stalls selling food and items from all over the world.

As well as the musical performances, you can also expect dances, workshops, informal sessions, street entertainment and a complete children's programme with music, childrens dances, storytelling, puppets, magic and circus skills.

Tickets are priced at £115 weekend with free camping, but if you buy before 1st July they are £105. Tickets for children between 10 and 15 years old are half price. Children between the ages of 10 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Children aged under 10 have free entry with a ticket holding adult. To buy tickets, click here.

A new introduction in 2009 is the first Pump Factor competition to find a winning artist/artists to play on one of the main stages before the end of the festival.

Camping and car parking are all on site close at hand.
