New York Dolls are to headline the Cow Shed (Main Stage) at this year's Lounge on the Farm festival, which takes place at Merton Farm in Canterbury from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th of July.

The New York Dolls were at the vanguard of the punk revolution of the mid 70s, they provided the template, and bucket-loads of inspiration, for bands across the globe, from The Sex Pistols and The Clash to Kiss and Mötley Crüe and even The Smiths.

Famed for their extravagant and raucous performances, David Johansen, Sylvain Sylvain and crew are set to plough through the old classics like 'Trash' and 'Jet Boy' on Saturday night in the band's only UK Headline festival appearance for 2008, as well as new material from their recent 'One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This' album.

Lounge on the Farm have also announced the inaugral 'cook off' competition. Festival goers are asked to come up with a culinary treat that is a 'Kentish Heritage Recipe'. They are looking for a traditional Kent recipe that has been handed down through the generations. Anyone who has a suitable dish is asked to submit their recipes to recipe@loungeonthefarm.co.uk or in person at the Samphire Restaurant, Whitstable.

These recipes will then be whittled down to 5 favourites that will be prepared live on Sunday the 13th July at this year's Lounge on the Farm by their very own wizard in the kitchen, Rob Cooper.

TV's MasterChef Gregg Wallace will then pick the winner that will elevate the dish to the best in Kent and gain it a place on the Samphire Restuarant's menu where the winner's details will be displayed in full glory whilst they dine on a complementary dinner for four.

The bands who have been confirmed include The Coral (playing acoustic) headlining on Sunday, plus Mystery Jets, Terry Hall, Bonobo, Polar Bear, Mike Strutter Group, Los Campesinos!, Art Brut, Black Kids, Pete Molinari, Sonny J, Sargasso Trio, Lightspeed Champion, The Bees, Findlay Brown, Shortwave Set, The Bookhouse Boys, Cagedbaby,Filthy Dukes, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, Wild Billy Childish & The MBE, Holly Golightly & The Broke Offs, and Underground Heroes. With many more acts still to be confirmed. For the line-up details as available please click here.

There are also some DJs confirmed DJ Jon Carter, Dub Pistols Sound System, Kevin Rowland (Dexy's Midnight Runners), and Aba Shanti Soundsystem with more to be announced.

Tickets are priced as follows: adult (16+) weekend tickets £85, child (6-15) weekend tickets £40, family weekend tickets £180 (2 adult weekend tickets and 2 child weekend tickets), and kids aged 0-5 receive free entry. To buy tickets at these prices click here.

The site is expected to be open for campers from the Thursday at 2pm until the Monday at 5pm.
