new festival planned for Yorkshire

Song07 to feature singer songwriters

By Neil Greenway | Published:

A new 3-day festival, featuring some of the finest singer songwriting musicians, is being put together for West Yorkshire for next July.

Song07 is being planned for an audience of 10,000, and will take place (subject to licence) in the Pennine hills Honley Showground, Thursonland Road, Farnley Moor, Farnley Tyas, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire over the weekend of Friday 27th to Sunday 29th July 2007. It's being organised by experienced music industry professional Simon Foster, and David Stead, the drummer from The Beautiful South.

The festival is aimed at those aged 25 to 55, couples and families, who want to see some of the finest singer songwriting musicians. The organisers are currently talking to acts including KT Tunstall, Badly Drawn Boy, Levellers, Seth Lakeman, Paul Brady, Eric Bibb, Eleanor McEvoy, Duke Special, Homespun and more, and although these acts aren't confirmed, they give a flavour of what the event is aiming for.

Music will come from an open-air Main Stage where the more mainstream acts will perform, a 2000 capacity tented second stage with an acoustic flavour throughout the daytime, and a 1000 capacity tented third stage/bar with acts programmed by Leicester's Songclub. Stage three (only) is expected to open at 5pm on the Friday, with music on all stages on the Saturday and Sunday.

As well as the music, there'll be camping available from midday on the Friday, real ales, festival food and family fun.

Tickets are expected to go on sale in January 2007. eFestivals will of course bring you all the information as it's available.
