Martin House Hospice benefits by £20,000 from Leeds Festival

By Neil Greenway | Published:

This year, Leeds Festival organisers Mean Fiddler teamed up with Geldards Coaches in Yorkshire to offer festival goers a low impact option of getting to and from the festival. Geldards were chosen due to their ability to offer the cheapest fare to and from the site, as well as their commitment to donate a certain amount of the money raised from bus ticket sales to a local charity - £10,000 was raised for Martin House Hospice by Geldards in this way.

On top of that £10,000, festival organisers Mean Fiddler have donated a further £10,000. Yesterday, Brenda Peel and Stewart Andrew from Martin House were presented with these donations by MD of Mean Fiddler Melvin Benn and Terry Geldard and Marie Henderson from Geldards Coaches at Bramham Park, the home of The Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival.

Stewart Andrew from Martin House said of the donation: “This year fundraising has been especially difficult due to so many demands on the public and as we’ve got to raise £3.6million every penny counts and this is a wonderful donation that we are delighted to receive.”

Martin House Hospice is one of the best loved charities in the local area, caring for children since their opening in 1987. The hospice offers a range of care including respite, where families can take a break from the stress of looking after a child with short life expectancy, through symptom control from dedicated and experienced medical teams to emergency care and support for families through the terminal care process and bereavement. Their work is a great help to families under huge stress and the money raised will help to ensure that more families can depend on Martin House to help them through very difficult and emotional times.

Mean Fiddler Managing Director, Melvin Benn said of their matching donation: “Geldard’s made a monumental effort this year to benefit Yorkshire’s only children’s hospice and we felt that it was important to recognise that. We are delighted to match Geldard’s generous donation and to focus attention on the difficult work done by the staff of Martin House.”
