IoW festival future in doubt

By Neil Greenway | Published:

A dispute between the organisers of the Nokia Isle of Wight Festival and Isle of Wight Council over money is putting the long term future of the Festival in doubt, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

As part of an agreement signed between the two, the Council is entitled to some commission from the ticket sales. The Council, which sold a number of the tickets itself, has held onto around £60,000 from the money it received from sales, believing that to be the amount to which it's entitled.

However, the organisers - Solo - believe that the Council should only receive around £20,000 as part of the agreement, and is now taking the Council to court for the return of the difference.

This year's event will be going ahead, but John Giddens of Solo has said that if the dispute is not resolved in their favour, the festival won't return to the Island after this year.
