  1. They're only 59 and 60 - that's not old!!! I took my mum when she was a pretty fit 79, camped in Pennards. She loved it. Just got her a good camp bed and a light chair to carry about, and a bit of planning. Camplight, or at least one of their pre-erected sites, is at the top of Pennards, so on a hill but not as bad as going right up to Worthy View.. But make sure you order a big enough tent if you do that - I'd add an extra 2 imaginary friends...

In defence of the brolly, I take one to use as a sunshade as I will burst into flames otherwise! I nev use it in a crowd though, it's mainly for when I'm sitting down. I have used. When it was wet once, but again, not in a crowd! So yes, if you don't need one, don't take one!

Brollies against the sun are definitely preferable to hats - they make me even hotter - red hair and lobster face are not a good look! But agreed, for sitting down only, so I have to wear a shady hat sometimes - not that that doesn't get in the way of other viewers probably, but at least it won't poke out an eye. I have got a lovely Japanese parasol, but it's on the bulky side, so not sure if sense will win over style when packing... and the years I've made the effort have been the rainiest! Better not bring it.

I'm hoping it's a Monday! It needs to be really as I am away with work the rest of the week..

Is it usually a Monday ? Please tell me it is :)

The year I got them in 2013 they had sales on the Monday (which I missed) and Tuesday (the day I got them) - but I think other years there have been a few  during the week they go on sale, judging by remarks on the forum.

    Thanks ooh-ahh

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to sell out too? Is the website less jammed cos there's less people trying?

I got a couple in one of the secret resales in 2013 at about midday - it was the second day of them and they were coach tickets from London, but I believe some of the resales are for ordinary entry.

  5. We always camp high on Pennards hill - have been doing so for all my eight Glastonbury's and hope to bag space for three tents this year. Love the view and being so central to places I like to hang out. 2005 we toddled up at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and had plenty of room to choose for five or six tents - but the Park didn't exist then, or the fenced off area at the bottom for I don't know who... now the Tuesday night queueathon seems essential for a good spot for the group. Feel safer from potential flood mud, too. Although having said that, in 2005 a flash flood caused a small river high across it and took out a number of tents, and we had to wade through to get down the hill. If you're worried about sleep, and it can be noisy from the Park, etc rather than the happy campers, use ear plugs ;)

really?  Is it that important for you to get a place at the front of the queue?  Leaving Swansea in the early hours of Wednesday is early enough i think!

Depends where you want to camp and how many you're having to set up for if you favour a popular field - and how far you have to travel. If you/your group aren't that bothered where you pitch and live fairly local, probably not!  For me, after a three hour or so drive, it's great to be there, relax and get into the festival vibe knowing we have a pretty good chance of pitching three tents together in our favourite spot. No angst.

  7. I love the queueathon! We try to arrive as near as poss to the car park gates opening and then trundle off with tent & essentials to join it immediately - bit of shuffling forward goes on one or two times  through the night as we all get moved up as they get the fence maze ready but the excitement grows as you inch forward.... and by the morning you are up on the hill watching the sun come up through the mist. My German army poncho acts as a mini tent over a multi-layered me so I'm even snug enough to get an hour's kip. Hi to Jane who made us a welcome fresh cup of tea to fend off the chill last year :).

A related question.... Going with the missus for the first time this year so I need a tent upgrade. Should I get a 3 man or 4 man tent?

Always had a 2 man for just me and my stuff but, though adequate, I still found it quite cramped, especially trying to dress while rolling around on my back like an overturned tortoise.

Definitely at least a 4 man sleeping area - and a good size porch almost the same size for all the bits, boots and messy wet gubbins. Then you'll have a happy missus with room for all her festival finery :). I have a 3 man tent with a good outer area and it's festival bliss for one person - particularly when the rains cometh. So thinking about it - maybe you need a 5 person one - 2 spaces for you and 3 for her...

  9. I've been using a telescopic canal fishing pole as our camp marker - they are really light and compact to carry and cheaper than proper heavy duty flagpoles - and you can get really tall ones! And I bought one of those long banner type flags to go on it. You need a pole spike too.

I'm 90% sure it's by the Pyramid, at least since last year, as I watched the start of Mary J Blige while I queued. It's right next to the pie place if I remember correctly.

I agree with you on the fish curries are overrated, they're good but not as fantastic as everyone said it'd be. Would be nice to hear other people's favourite food places at glasto actually.

Lebanese food at the top of Park - yummity tum!
