This announcement made me really really happy this morning.
I think the line up is incredibly good so far this year - as it has been for the previous 3 years (2009 was my first).

So EotR has been set up, run at initially heavy losses, and sustained for however many years it has run, all to get some dodgy mates to play a crap set?! It seems a very long winded way of getting a couple of hundred pounds to me!

Holy Crutches were absolutely diabolical last year. One of the worst performances I have ever seen. Whether they replaced an artist who dropped out or not, it's curious that I can see no trace of them anywhere online - no evidence of other shows, no recordings, no page/scrobbles on last fm...nothing. There must be a thousand unsigned bands who would have turned up to play in the Big Top and late in the Tipi for free - even at ultra short notice - and they'd have to try pretty hard to be worse. Clearly there is some kind of connection which brought about that performance. That could simply be that they were someone's friends who got to piss around. The suggestion that it was a front for a donation to be made to Scientology in the form of a performance fee is certainly interesting though.
I have been to EOTR for the last 3 years, and have a ticket for both EOTR and NDH this year. Thus far, this is not going to stop me going, and hopefully having as good a time as I have in the past...but I am intrigued to find out more about this.

Why was the sound in the Tipi so awful at times? It was not very good for Brakes secret set on Sunday night, and appalling for Slow Down, Molasses after that (half the instruments completely inaudible, vocals lost under guitar fuzz). A shame, because I was looking forward to both, and think I would have really enjoyed them if the sound had not been so bad.

Three Trapped Tigers (Tipi secret set - wow!)

John Grant (definitive #1)
Joanna Newsom
Beirut
Woods
The Leisure Society
That was really hard. The only reason Okkervil River are not in the top 5 is that they were probably my favourite band of EOTR 2009 so I had really high expectations going in, plus a few people in the crowd around me spoiled it a bit. Still an excellent set though, and of course, there are many other bands I wish I could easily swap into that top 5.

Pavement really would be almost unbelievably good.
I'd also love to see Ween, Built To Spill and Wilco.
How about A Silver Mt. Zion (/Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band)?

Top 3 is very difficult, but I think I'll have to go for...
Okkervil River (undoubted top spot; was so much fun)
The Low Anthem
Dirty Projectors
Those last 2 could easily swap with a few others thoug...William Elliott Whitmore, Ohbijou, Fleet Foxes...
If I hadn't seen Explosions In The Sky three times previously I think they'd certainly be in my top 3. They were excellent as always, but having seen every song performed more than once before meant that I took less from it than all the amazing bands I saw for the first time.
Good to hear someone else was disappointed with Magnolia Electric Co. Much preferred Jason Molina solo last year. Guitarist's vocals were way too loud, Molina was bewilderingly quiet (criminal for someone with a voice like his) and generally just a weird selection of songs... would have been nice to hear some of the perkier stuff from Josephine.Don't agree about Dirty Projectors though, thought they were grand. Nice to hear Knotty Pine especially!
Grandaddy to headline Sunday plus Alabama Shakes and more...
