  1. Some Arcade Fire fans have become annoyingly whiney and obsessive, just like Radiohead fans. Doesn't really change the fact they're two excellent bands though.

AF are just seeing the start of the people who bragged about liking Funeral gradually distancing themselves because they've become too popular. Yawn.

  2. I always said I thought it would be a stretch for Arcade Fire to sub-headline this year, even under U2.

I would say that by 2013 there is no chance they would do - look at all the festivals they have headlined.

I think they would be superb, they should have headlined this year instead of *yawn* Coldplay.

The dream lineup would be Elbow, Arcade Fire and then a more leftfield booking.

It would be truly wonderful to see those two bands headlining the greatest stage on earth.

  3. Did you or any of your friends take any drugs at Glasto this year ?

I have only taken a gazebo once. It was a small one for 15-20 of us. The Thursday morning 6 of us (the only 6 that had arrived by then out of our group) had gone out to breakfast and came back in the rain to find 3 lads under our gazebo covering from the rain, we offered them all a seat, a can and a smoke. If they are used in the right way and people dont restrict OP's access I dont see the problem.

  4. I don't see what the problem with gazebos is to be honest.

As over 30 of us go together each year. we put the big tents in a circle with the rest satelliting them. We then put a gazebo in the middle where we will be sitting each morning/evening. It can act as shelter from either sun or rain!

This was our gazebo at camp this yr >

  5. There is something slightly peverse about people going to see a solo artist and complaining that he didn't sing any of his songs from a previous life (and I include myself in that).

That said, I thought the setlist of his solo work was 6/10 at best. Some great great songs left out and possibly one or two too many from So Beautiful or So What.

Biggest disappointment of the weekend, mainly because my expectations had been sky high. Glad I didn't pay £84 for the Hammersmith gig (albeit that got cancelled eventually).

  6. We had some idiots around us waiting for Coldplay, including one who asked who Emily Eavis was and then upon being told she was Michael Eavis's daughter asked who Michael Eavis was.

But we also enjoyed the set with some wonderful Elbow fans around us.

As we were leaving the front section about 6/7 people muttered as we went past "why would you leave before Coldplay?" I starting off answering "because Elbow are ten times the band Coldplay will ever be" before getting a bit less measured and answering "why wouldn't you leave before Coldplay".

  7. Biblically good, the best performance of this and many other Glastonburys.

They make the most beautiful music that is haunting, life-affirming, introspective and joyful and that all in a tiny little set.

Their love, authenticity and all-round brilliance made Coldplay and their ridiculous lyrics look like the slick, stylized stadium-filling nothingness that they are.

  8. The biggest idiots we came across were during Elbow who were clearly waiting for Coldplay.

When guy dedicated Mirrorball to Emily's son these guys asked what it was about. My girlfriend explained Emily had had a baby just before the festival.

They asked who Emily Eavis was, so my girlfriend explained she was Michael Eavis's daughter.

They then asked who Michael Eavis was, at which point my girlfriend suggested they should go home immediately!

  9. I thought Coldplay were exactly as expected. Watched them with my girlfriend and a few friends.

Very solid, very safe, very average, very unemotional, very dull.

  10. Too many for me.

    - Bright Eyes for Jim Jones Revue (will probably miss the start of Bright Eyes or the end of Jim Jones - depends what mood I'm in)

    - Fleet Foxes / Park Special Guests for Morrissey

    - Elbow / Noah and the Whale for Park Special Guests

    - TV On The Radio / Everything Everything for Paul Simon

  11. I think more than anyone I've ever listened to talk about music, Guy Garvey is the person who most understands the reasons for making and listening to music.

Or maybe his view is the one that chimes most closely with my own.

He is one of my heroes and would without doubt be part of my fantasy 4-man trip to a pub.

  12. Friday clashes with

    Jimmy Cliff (completely)

    Morrissey (completely)

Mumford (mostly although time to check out the special guests first and make a decision)

The Coral and Fleet Foxes (if you want to see their whole sets).

    And Ke$sha...

    Saturday clashes with

    Elbow (completely)

    Friendly Fires (completely)

    Noah and the Whale (completely)

And you would miss the start of White Lies.

So in terms of the big stages Friday is far far more competitive becauseo of the diversity on offer. For me it's Elbow above anything else but there isn't much else to keep people away on Saturday.
